funny thing about transportation tools. They seem to evolve much like we ourselves evolve. When young and especially those years in the university, any `ol thing would do to get from point a to point b. Thoughts during those years were tuned to studies and getting laid so it didn't really matter what sort of tool was used as transportation. Then as evolution changed the important things in life so did the vehicle desire evolve. There was the look at me fine car and then the let's get it on Muscle car. Of course the time rolled around that a hardy work truck fit the need quite nicely until the sudden requirement for economy changed the nation. And these things typically manage to come full circle and start all over again as we get to that middle something number of years on this planet. Of course now for me the evolution has gone to the fun and excitement of the ride so two wheels has taken it's turn at the evolution of transportation tools. Can't help but to wonder how these tools will evolve next.

It invokes a sense of abject terror.

After a nearly crash landing at the airport at the MOM, after a turbulent roller coaster flight, my sphincters (all of them!) were so clenched that I didn't pee for nearly 24 hours, and couldn't shit for 2 days. A ride in T's car soon opened up all those clenched valves! If you have no religion, taking a ride in this little red monster will certainly help you to find it!

Weeeeell, when they start recycling batteries properly (no, lithium batteries currently are not recycled, and are actually a fire hazard), then - may be.

Given limited deposits of lithium, lack of recycling and battery useful life of around 5-10 years (if the batteries are high quality).

Also - colder climates severely limit the range (heating is mostly 'free' in internal combustion engine, but not with electric vehicle, and battery needs climate control too).

So - unless battery technology really goes more advanced, not happening.

And I am not even discussing if power grid will be able to supply needed power.

Several good points. I'll bring up one only because I can tell you are a sharp guy and hopefully appreciate the knowledge. It has only been about the last decade that batteries became a focus because needed for renewable energy. Nobody had really looked for lithium before.

Well, that didn't work very well. Got interrupted and did a 0.063 of a post. Anyway, nobody had really looked before. There was some lithium production from Nevada brines and some pegmatites. As it usually works, once people got looking, they have found a lot of lithium. Some like the huge pegmatites in Australia and the really, really extensive brines in Argentina are profitable now with current technology. Ditto African pegmatites. I might add that the potential in Argentina would really blow your socks off. Then there are the mega-deposits like Bolivia and the Tibetan plateau that do not work really well with current technology becase of things like magnesium content. If anyone can ever figure out the metalllurgy, there are gargantium amounts of lithium in oil field brines like the Smackover formation in the South and Alberta, Canada. This is an aside.

Getting back to cars. What do you think about mounting a Mini-Cooper on a Saturn 5. Maybe like an F-4 Phantom it could even fly with enough thrust.
