Well, sort of. But putting the device in destroys all the internal structure of the penis so there is no going back. If you have normal erectile difficulty at least you have a normal flacid penis, but if you have a penis implant removed the penis is really just a tube of skin that is in pretty bad shape.
I said this before somewhere in the vast archive of comments but I can't find it...
Back in the early 1980's I met a paraplegic who had penile implants (yes plural). He first got the solid rod implants (I don't know if they make these anymore) that held his penis perpetual stiff. He hid it by pushing it down his leg. It was removed after the end of the rod poked through the skin of his penis. The second implant was the inflatable kind and it had the reservoir hidden behind the abdominal wall, the pump was in his scrotum, and the tubes inflated inside his penis. He said hie penis never got hard, hard, hard like in real life but it did pump up erect enough to do his girlfriends. Somehow that broke down inside him. He said it hurt like hell when it happened. And so it came out. He pulled his sweatpants out from his waist and asked if I wanted to see the "noodle" that was left and I declined. A) I didn't know him well enough, B) he had a wicked sense of humor, C) he most probably wore an indwelling or some form of external catheter. I hadn't seen any intermittent catheters around his house. and D) I just don't stick my hands inside an acquaintances pants and rummage around casually feeling him up in the middle of the day. (ignore that last comment).
He did call what was left of his penis "a noodle"... The implants do destroy the internals of the penis.

Just a quick update. Been a couple weeks now and still have permanent rock-hard erection and penis is much thicker than before (my wife says it hurts during sex). It is a non-ischemic erection meaning there is still blood flow so there isn't any downside except sometimes my dick gets in the way of exercising and I've caught a few women gazing at my crotch so I guess it's obvious that I have one.
I have a follow-up with the urologist on Thursday where he wants to discuss penile implants. I'm not keen on it, but figure I'll listen to him. Of course doctors have a conflict of interest due to the amount of money involved. I read that he bills insurance $75k per operation and on days that he does them he does six!
Just as a curiosity, would you consider repeating this experiment, or was it a one time only event.

My hubby has a saying: "Never ask a barber whether you need a haircut." You might want to get an opinion from a doctor who doesn't do the surgery, or at least one who knows from the start that he's giving the second opinion and won't be doing your surgery. There was an item in the news just yesterday, saying that medical mistakes are the third leading cause of death in the USA. Doctors are not infallible, even if they pull in 6x$75,000=$450,000 for a day's work. A second opinion could be a comparatively cheap investment.
Has anyone else considered trying this or maybe have done so already and are the effects the same as SplitDick's. Also, SplitDik, how is your recovery going.
Hey all. Here is an six month update. I waited a while to post for two reasons -- the main one is that what I did was very dangerous and I don't want to encourage anyone to ever do it. Secondly, I was curious about whether the effects would heal or not.
So, basically it appears I have destroyed my ability to have a full erection and also ability to go fully flaccid. Apparently I have created what is called severe venous leakage, meaning that my body no longer can constrict the blood flow out of the penis and thereby cannot retain a hard erection. The interesting thing is that this is no fixable medically. All the viagra/cialis type drugs are all about fixing people who have trouble with bloodflow into the penis, but this is a problem with bloodflow out of the penis. My doctor tried injections, high dose pills, etc. and nothing even caused a budge in improving the erection. We tried cock rings/bands (there are medical ones that are pretty much same as novelty ones) which helped maintain the erection a bit but couldn't get it fully hard -- the venous leakage is too deep in the penis to constrict with the bands.
The best way to describe my most erect state is that it looks erect but is still really floppy when manipulated. Interestingly this almost fully prevents any possibility of penetrative sex. Instead of sliding in and out, it basically compresses and bends, at least when the woman is "tight" which my wife and a couple of the other women I've tried with are. The only position which can kind of work is doggy-style, when the woman is very lubed up, then it can mostly stay in and get some sliding on.
So basically I've created permanent impotence that cannot be fixed. It is really interesting to be impotent. I get a lot of chances to have sex as I'm successful, tall, outgoing and travel a lot, but now I have to turn most of them down. I did have a really good sex session with a girl in Taipei recently, but I made it through the all-night sex by sticking to doggy style (as described above) and lots of oral and manual sex. She was obviously disappointed a few times when she would hop on top and such and it just wouldn't work for penetration.
In terms of not going fully flaccid, I actually like this effect -- it makes the whole nude/locker room effect look good. It hangs down (doesn't look like an erection really) but is almost full length and width. So decently impressive (I imagine).
So overall this created an interesting situation, which some of you might find desirable.
HOWEVER, this was probably the most dangerous thing I've ever done and I cannot recommend it in any fashion. The phenol, when I was injecting it I dropped a little bit on my skin and it blistered immediately. It is extremely caustic. It has to be diluted extensively (I diluted down to 6% in optical saline) It didn't hurt at all during or after the injection, however it is known to be a clotting agent and so I easily could have ended up with a stroke or heart attack. For all I know, a clot could still break loose some day.
So there you have it. Injecting phenol can get permanent impotence, and also can kill you.
By the way, the only solution for getting erections back is a penile implant (i.e. destroy all the natural tissue and replace with a mechanical pump system) but I'm still reasonably young (43) and they only last an average of 12 years so I'd be signing up for multiple, invasive surgeries for the rest of my life, and I'm extremely active -- I do a lot of martial arts -- and I feel like it would have to interfere with that (don't want to get kicked in the groin while having all this equipment in my balls and cock). But I guess I'll probably go that way soon.
Ultimately, I did this to try to numb my penis. Still trying to find a way to get that done properly. I feel if I figure that out, it would satisfy my penectomy obsession without the problems of urination. I could still get the implant and have sex, just without orgasm/pleasure for myself. Would be interesting to have a built-in dildo.
