And they are free to comment/speak as they like and freely :).

I would also have preferred the local route, but when I was done, this option was not offered.

I suspect that Hopeful1 has hit the nail on the head as regards the costs. The docs probably are making sure that their friends make a buck out of the procedure. I know, my urologist had an assistant when he did mine. The assistant was a full professor and cost me $600.00, which Medicare and my private health insurance only covered about $400.00. I am certain that a competent theater nurse would have been perfectly adequate as an assistant and would have cost a fraction of what was charged.

I would rather have a local and be awake and conscience when I go from being a man to becoming a Eunuch. Plus having a local is less expansive than having a General.

The urologist who handled my orchiectomy didn't give me a choice--she does all of them with general anesthesia. That said, I came around pretty quickly afterward without any real after effects, so I suspect it wasn't as deep as it would be for a longer or more invasive procedure. It might have been nice to see the deed, but I was very satisfied with how it all went. No regrets, no pining for "missing out" on being awake.

from experience - Local, however much is used still hurts a lot!

I would say that either you're resistant to the lidocaine or whatever they used, (which is rare) or the doctor didn't know what he was doing.

I've had local for a number of surgeries, and everything was fine and nothing hurt. However my Urologist wouldn't do my orchi under a local, so I had general with that. But local for my scrotectomy.

In general a local is sufficient and easier on the body overall than general anesthesia.

Possibly, they used lidocaine and something stronger - still had a lot of pain!

I had a local with IV propanol in both the original orchi and subsequent scrotal removal. Much safer than a general and easier to pull out of.

But his buddy would have missed out on all the fun of castrating a hung bull like you !
