I worked with hydrogen in pilot plants and had to purge the oxygen from the system. We used nitrogen so we didn't go BOOM!.

If you've ever used oxygen in a hospital, you should know this because oxygen can blind or destroy lungs.

And its not really rocket science -- APOLLO 13 dealt with this oxygen problem in real life and in the movie about it.

Fair?

It's very unfair to lack oxygen.

And Apollo 1 demonstrated the benefits of a nominally 100% oxygen atmosphere in a confined space:

It can be very, very unfair to lack nitrogen...

As Grissom, Chaffee, and White briefly may have begun to recognize?

I was an undergraduate bioengineering student in 1967

You beat me to it. The Apollo 1 reference.

How could America's top "rocket scientist" forget stuff like asbestos burns in pure oxygen.

AND I would have known of Nitrogen had I come on to the quiz before the thread

and I can be trusted on this because I am pure of :hearthrob

I was first year pre med in 1967. My father was an unemployed aerospace engineer.

Y'see they didn't ask him about the Oh-2.

Moi

Gotta respect old science
