The Hospital decided to keep IE a few more days for observation.

IE said he did hear one disturbing message on the hospital intercom: "Calling Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard."

I remember those guys...

As of today, IE is still a prisoner of the hospital. However, they did grant him a six hour reprieve so he could go home grab some books and put a few movies on his laptop. Hopefully, that will prevent IE from going nucking frutz.

He was to be out by now? what gives? IE get better soon.

I want to thank everyone for their well-wishes, and am pleased to announce that I am finally at home. (Although I'm supposed to go back to see the ENT doc in a week or so)

Man, that was a hell of a week. And to try and address some of the concerns raised here....

Yes, I misspelled, it was indeed epiglottitis. However, the docs seemed pretty confident that it was not the result of allergy, so no need to carry around an epi-pen. Instead, I got to spend most of this last week in various departments of the local hospital (from post-surgical ICU on down to a 'regular' ward), while being dosed with massive amounts of two different antibiotics, clindamycin and ceftriaxone), as well as an initial 'booster' of steroids for a couple days.

From Sat night (when I went into the ER) up until Wed, I think, there were NPO orders (nothing by mouth), and I was entirely on an IV, and I didn't get to sleep for some stupid length of time for a combination of reasons. Namely, they couldn't give me my usual meds (pills, taken by mouth), the steroids, and massive doses of Ventolin. They also couldn't give me anything to make me sleep, as apparently anything which could do that would also depress my breathing. Since I already needed O2, and they kept threatening intubation, they decided to let me remain awake.

But.... things are better now, at least for the most part. My asthma still hasn't gone back to what it was before all this started (six weeks ago), and I'm now having some issues with appetite (as in, food makes me nauseous), but they keep saying that these things will improve with time.

Once again, I do want to thank everyone who posted on this thread. It really means a lot to me.
