A new box is only 300-400 nowdays. Easy enough to find someone to strip out win8 and put in win7 ultimate or such. I get it done regularly for myself and friends for $50, I am happy and David is too.

Living in a small city there are not all the options and I do not have a David. I would also like it working fairly quickly and that will also influence my decision.

WIN-8 is WIN-7 for touchscreen tech. If you're sticking to desktop models, keep using WIN-7; you'll be happier.

If you have already bought the new hard drive, they aren't too difficult to install; most only need a Phillips screwdriver and deft fingers.

Thanks for the information. Sadly I am lacking deft fingers. If I had a less expensive computer I would do it myself. The more I pay the less I trust myself. I used to attend classes designed to help me develop coordination and eye hand dexterity. I was so lacking in ability that I did not get my drivers license until I was 21.

I did learn about Windows 8 needing a touch screen. The salesman felt I should keep my tower since it is not that old and a comparable tower would be $600. Of course I would need a touch screen monitor for more expense. The cost is I think a little high but I have not heard from a friends son who builds his own computers or the two recommended local shops. If I do not hear anything I will head to Best Buy.

I walk into my bedroom to use the computer and shit I remember it is not working.

Two words: finger smudges. Ok, may be, I am a little bit touchy about sticking fingers in my monitor.

I can make a bet: touchscreen would be used for first month. Then, it would stay unused. Imagine yourself being a conductor, that is the experience with touchscreen desktop monitor. That, and cleaning smudges .

Program returning back a start menu for win8 would be cheaper, than a touchscreen monitor .

A touchscreen would never stay upright in front of me. IT would end up flat on the desk or at some angle less than 45 degrees. I don't reach out without my shoulders hurting and flat or at an angle would be easier. I know that from the IPAD I have.

And yes, it would be smeary with fingerprints.

I am back online. My computer was repaired in less than 24 hours. I have a new Seagate 1 terabyte storage which I was told would work faster in an HP. So far very pleased.

Congrat's! Not sure what anyone would store on that large of a drive though? I never use the OS/C drive for important things.

The computer originally came with a 1 terabyte hard drive and I was advised not to go smaller.

The reason I went with the Seagate is the tech felt it would operate faster in an HP. Now a new question about recovery discs; if you make recovery discs does that also create the operating system such as Windows 7 or does it jus back up files you created?
