I once knew a local girl who had a Yugo in high school. This was back in the late 80's; I had graduated, Sis was still in school.

The girl was huge. Seriously, she had to weigh 300 lbs / 136 kg.

The car had so many problems that everyone used to chant: "I go, you go, we all go NOWHERE!" It spent many a night parked on the lot of the convenience store where I worked.

Finally, after thousands in warranty work, the dealer finally told them, and I paraphrase, "This car was not designed for a person as large as your daughter. Have you considered a Lincoln Towne Car?"

They had actually modified the shock mounts to hold shocks for a smaller truck, because Yugo shocks couldn't handle her. The car would lean over, and almost drag the pavement on the driver side when she got in. I think the transmission went out at least 3 times.

My favorite car, believe it or not, was the Ford Fairmont Futura 2 door I had in high school. If I could find one from somewhere like AZ where they don't have a lot of road salt, I'd buy one and fix it up just for nostalgia's sake.

Yes River that was the one I had.

It came in two versions a two cylinder and a three cylinder.

Mine was a three cylinder air-cooled side-by-side with three

Amal side draft carburetors. It was a wonderful piece of crap,

something that a bunch of wanna-be car guys might build in

their garage.

Once I broke an upper A-Arm on the front suspension, I just

went down to the hardware store and found some steel bar

and built a replacement. Mine was at least as good as the

"factory" origonal.

Cars like that are worth it just for the smiles that the stories bring. A bunch of us back in the 70s went in to buy a 54 Willys to use as our hang gliding transport up one mountain. It was like that. A wonderful piece of crap, as you perfectly described. Talking about it always brings smiles.

I have had 40 or 50 cars, trucks etc. in my lifetime so far. A great many of them were "a wonderful piece of crap" - great fun also. As for worst car I would like to nominate one my friend just acquired: a 1990(?) Daihatsu. --FLO--

What?? Problems with your Monza? Just because the rear engine motor seal was made out of some polypropylene material that hadn't been perfected yet? The McPerson struts problem and the floor pans not preventing water from drenching the carpets.. Well, yeah, but it was loads of fun to drive.
