Why are these things so common and so popular? Every year or so, there's a new prediction that the world is about to end, and throngs of people lap it up. I think the reason is that many long for an end, so long as it's universal. Their lives are hard and disappointing and stressful, so they'd be relieved to see it all disappear. Of course if it was only them dying, they'd miss some good TV and be at a social disadvantage, so that's no good. But if the world ends, millions would probably be content.

River, I wonder if you may be mistaken. If nothing happens on the 21st and 22nd, the world (including you and this thread) will have vanished before you can close this thread?

The Mayan calendar is actually much, much more accurate than the Gregorian calendar, -certainly more than the Julian, so if an apocolypse were to happen then there should be some accurate account of how things would transpire written in stone somewhere.

One thing is for certain, on the 21st I will be celebrating as its a religious holiday for me and others who believe in nature. Witta, pagan etc. so have no fear it will not be closed that day because I will be burning a Yule Log, the day after I will be recuperating from the food and drink from the day before celebration of life. But I think before my birthday celebration on the 24th I will close this thread if of course were all still here, if not it hardly matters. I suspect that it will be closed on the 23rd by me as I don't think anything will be different except people who should know better will know better.

Look a calendar is just that a calendar, its a way to track days nothing more it does mean that the world comes to an end at the end of the year when our calendar ends, OMG yes it ends and we then start it over, nothing more.

Hey, us Mayan wanna-be's will be celebrating the Mayan New Year. Now if I can just finish chiseling my new stone calender by the big day. Do you think that tequila would be the most appropriate tipple for the big day? A big pitcher of margaritas with a plate of cactus worms for snacks perhaps? And I'm not sure of the proper ritual. Is it appropriate to sacrifice a virgin, perhaps tossing him or her into Mt St. Helen's volcano? These big celebrations are so complicated.

Now if we had to analyze the possibility of a post apocalyptic doomsday I'll rate the probability of that happening outside of a standard normal bell curve distribution table with a very large standard error deviation.

Ain't happening doomsayer's!!!!.....You can put down those flyers.

Dream on loser's!!!!!!!
