Combined with these test, etc, have they put you on any medications that elevate blood sugars as a side effect?

Oh I had not thought of supplements either. The Oncologist prescribed Folic acid and I began to take fish oil, magnesium, calcium of course, one a day vitamin along with low dose aspirin. Thanks I need to check them out.

I take all these as well, but also 10k/IU of vitamin D3 in oil form every morning.

If you're trying to eat less, and low carb, and watch your weight, and still getting higher numbers, something IS wrong. Sounds like increasing insulin resistance, which doesn't make sense if you're exercising more. The other option is decrease insulin output from the pancreas, which, possibly, could have worn out.

Are you taking vitamin B12? The metformin you are taking can cause malabsorption of vitamin B12.

It is also very possible that you have or have had hepatitis. The physical damage to liver circulation can cause excessive blood backup pressure irritating the spleen. One of the functions of the spleen is to remove old or damaged blood cells including thrombocytes or platelets as well as worn out red blood cells. Inflammation causes it to go into hyperactive mode.

They tested me for hepatitis and I was negative. They did say removal of the spleen could be one of the treatments. Thanks for the information.

After I read and responded I saw this was your first post so I wanted to welcome you to the EA.

You also had me thinking more about my spleen. Several years ago I had a bicycle accident where the bike and I flipped down a hill. I fell about 12 feet and bounced off the trees on my way down. I had black tarry stools for two days after so I knew I had some internal bleeding.

You get the same thing with a low carb diet, however, not 'black'. Wild variations in color can happen, which scared the hell out of me at first! I hope you're doing OK so far? Any new news?

Not just black but black and tarry. The higher in the body the bleeding happens the darker the stool. Hemorrhoidal bleeding is bright red since it had not been through the digestive track.

I think I feel fine with less energy. Of course any odd feelings I wonder why I am feeling that now. I am trying to decide if I am feeling what I feel or is it mental due to the concerns. Due to abuse I had been numb for a lot of years so feeling itself is odd. One thing that is quite annoying is now I am cold all the time. I used to be the overheated eunuch that wanted to work in a refrigerated area. Now I argue with an 83 year old woman about the house being cold. I have to wear lounge pants and t-shirts to bed.

Yeah, I'm pretty cold natured, too, as Riverwind and the others can attest.

Last MOM, it was 80F and I still had a hoodie on.
