Sorry, bad memories.

Correct: they were not flavored with flavoring solutions or salted. We did our own salt and pepper. Just an honest thin slice of beef.

Also, they were ZERO Carbs ;)

Minute steaks are known in most of the country as cube steaks. They are a tough cut of meet, traditionally the round, cut thin and mecanically tenderized by driving a dozens of thin sharp blades through the meat which cuts the tough fibers of meat. You can buy a home tool to do the job: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00134 ... 8TBDKVWCXR . And there is no particular reason that they need to be bad cooking. The Chicken Fried Steak, one of the great dishes of American cooking starts as an humble cube steak. For some great ideas on using the minute steak, see Alton Brown's Good Eats episode "Cubing the Round"

65 was a reasonable retirement age because of so many cigarette smokers.

Tell that to the corporate bosses, today most employers want to clean out the force at age 55.

In those days there was much more drama in the world.

Besides, NIXON there was Sadat flying to Tel Aviv in Real Time on TV, back in 1978.

So monotonous these days compared to the good ole days.

I received a PM with some wisdom.

In those days when you were attacked you knew what country it came from.

Those were the days.

Remember when humor about the Church did not involve sick jokes and children?

And sure it was happening then. It was about not knowing, for sure.

Those Were The Days, innocence.

Missing the mid 20th Century. :-\

Ron Paul misses it too, he wants to go back to the 1920's.

Those kind of steaks that are bland and tough you need to take a hammer to it (the wafflle edged kind). You need to really pound some sense and lots of spice into it. And then roast it on low for a much longer time.

They were threatening to shoot the animals they could not evacuate at the Griffith Park zoo, the old one was best - remember River, and on live TV was the DC-3's extinguishing the fire.

We also had four other independent channels for a total of 2, 4 , & 7 - the networks and

5, 9, 11 and 13 the independents. All from Hollywood or beautiful down town Burbank, the Gem of the Not LA cities.

Reception was generally the same for all being broadcast from one of the nearby high peaks.

:)

I mostly had radio (AM) and books to read when I grew up. Our TV was kept in a closet with the screen facing the back wall for a few years and then disposed of. Neighbors seemed happy to have little visitors watching their TV, so my siblings and I did. I wasn't totally deprived of TV.

Let's see, the Twilight Zone was on Channel 2 Los Angeles,

2 KNXT, never saw TWZ first run though - Saw it re-run on 5 KTLA and later on the SciFi channel with their 4th of July marathons

4 KNBC NBC

5 KTLA Independent

7 KABC ABC

9 KHJ Independent

11 KTTV Independent

13 KCOP Independent

28 KCET PBS

Where I lived we also had

3 KEYT Santa Barbara

6 XERB (or something like that) out of San Diego/Tijuana (3:30 PM weekdays, Dark Shadows) or

6 KSBY The NBC affiliate from San Luis Obispo depending upon which way the antenna pointed

8 Spanish Language

10 KCET rebroadcast

12 KCOY Santa Maria

You bet, those were the good old days. Now I don't watch TV by choice. 900 Channels and nothing on.
