Its starting to look like EA should change its site access to members only, change the front page to a registration page with no access to anything unless you are loged in. I know it is drastic, because a lot of people get access without loging in to see whats here, but it might stop problems like whats happening now.

On my Windows 7 machine I am having trouble convincing the computer that I am the administrator and have permission to muck about in the hosts file.
Enter 'cmd' in the start box. When the Command Prompt icon appears, right click it and 'Run as Administrator'. Assure Windoze you want to allow the action, then:
cd \Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
notepad hosts
and happily edit and save the file.

Y'know... I'm gonna have to agree with this idea... with reservations.
You need a membership to post in the forums, which are moderated and extremely tame by comparison to other sites I have seen, but you don't need a membership to read the archive. Just a couple of clicks and you're there.
By far the most controversial and possibly offensive stuff is in the archive. Maybe it should be put behind some protection.
I agree with you Skudster, but with a caveat. I wouldn't have found the EA if I had to sign into an unknown website first. To be fair, I think most EA members are a fairly skittish bunch. I know I was, and still am. Once I get into a safe place like the EA I feel I can open up, but on other sites, not so much.
Having the Archive behind a password or membership-only seems like the right thing to do. I'm leaning toward that as a good idea.
I'm just not sure if I would have found my way here if it had been for members only. Would doing something like that have even protected us from all these "technical issues"?

I dont think I would have found my way here if the site was members only either. I dont know if there is a way to protect us, I am not that literate in site creation or web access. I like the idea of saving the Archeive to members, that would give people access, but if they wanted the Archieve they could become a member.

Explanation #2 to why the EA is down:
Kristoff, the Red Nun, was installing his new naqueda (sp) powered chipper shredder when it blew out the circuits.

That's because he was using naquedria instead of naqueda, and didn't account for the infinitely smaller amounts of fuel necessary. It's a common mistake, unfortunately.
