I guess a lot of people can't bear the thought of such suffering and death for no reason. It may console people to think that disaster befell them because of a moral imperative. I know it's silly, but, given the magnitude of what's happened to Japan (and a Japanese volcano erupted today!), I don't begrudge them for saying "God is punishing us," rather than "shit happens." The latter is the truth, but it seems to strip the afflicted of any dignity. Tokyo's governor is a smart politician.

He’s made some outrageous statements before (he’s nearly a match for Palin or Bachman), but today he announced that the disaster was “Heaven’s Punishment for selfish egoism.” The tsunami would “wash away the selfishness of the Japanese people.”

You're right. It's not Judgment Day yes, but it is prophesied events leading up to it.

sag, I am with you on Japan, it breaks my heart and seeing those pictures that Slammr linked us to brought me to tiers.

But of all the countries in the world Japan is the only one that was prepared for this, or as prepared as one can be.

Jesus, other then world vision and the red cross, who would you recommend to send money to, to help.
