Back to Armageddon: unless we have a civilization ending event such as an asteroid or comet hitting the earth or the super volcano beneath Yellowstone erupting, I doubt we're in for Armageddon. We can probably survive anything else. We survived WWII, after all, during which 60 million people were killed and much of Europe was destroyed. Almost anything, compared to that, would be no more than a hiccup.

That doesn't mean we might not experience a worldwide economic depression. We have, just, barely avoided that, so far.

Personally, I think we are connected and that the reality we perceive is not reality as it actually exists. Unfortunately, when many people experience a taste of that reality, afterward, they interpret the experience using dogma they've previously learned. The Infinite, or a glimpse of the Infinite can't be explained rationally. It can only be experienced. When we try later to explain it rationally, we use whatever religious concepts we already have. I agree that there is much evidence that we are more than the physical bodies in which we exist, but I also don't believe that my ego, my separateness, will exist longer than does my body. Actually, I would hate to be stuck with it for eternity.

Which religion(s) are talking about the end of the world/God punishing would be more interesting. I haven't heard Jews talking about it, nor Muslims. For that matter mainstream Christianity isn't talking about it either from what I know. I can't speak to Buddhism or other Eastern religions, but I'd guess they believe in nature not punishment.

Abraham could not accept the fact that wooden 'gods' (which his father was a manufacturer of) were real 'gods'. Wood cannot talk back or create etc. He went on a quest to FIND God...and he did. We all know the story (I think).

Through his offspring he did brought forth the Jewish nation but God promised Abraham that He will be the God off EVERY NATION. Those who acknowledge Him as God.

In the old testament times He DID. He even spoke to people, but even when He had contact with people, he was still rejected. Even by those He had contact with. (Solomon who heard God's voice, rejected God's words and committed wrong things in His eyes). God saw that the written law of His does not have any affect on people so He decided to sent His Son to write that law on people's hearts.

After Jesus did His job on Earth, He went back to His Father but He spoke again to certain people. He visited His apostles from heaven a few times. St. Paul is a good example, but one very special visit was to St. John on the island of Patmos.

This is only true in part. God does warn us of the future and events that will happen. He tells us that most people on Earth will reject Him (which is the case).

Jesus told John that God will stop his direct influence to people from that time (2000 years ago)

Rev 13:10 "If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity he will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword he will be killed..."

But hist is mainly directed to the world. He does speak to MANY Christian, He guides their feet and He does help them in situations.

Psa 91:11 "...For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways..."

Finally, we Christians do not fear death or troubles on this earth because our eyes are fixed towards God. We hope for something better than this world. We are investing in heaven.

What is there to loose? If Christianity is false, we still have lost nothing, but if it is true, we have much to gain.

I wasn't speaking about the bible (for the record I'm Jewish so there is only the original testament LOL) I was asking which sects of different religions are blaming the earthquakes or volcanoes as being the hand of God.

Did the idea of armageddon come forth from religion?

Humans invented religion.

All other life forms get along just fine without religion.

Works for them.

They waste not one moment debating conceptual ideas.

The human brain may be the weak link.

Human activity deviates from the norm of all living creatures.

War, pollution, ecological disruption, ozone,

No other creature has destroyed the planet more than humans.

Could be that humans are the planet's armageddon.

Is your god infinite? Is he omniscient? The god you describe isn't, unless he purposely set man up to fail. The one you describe is a bumbler that can't seem to get anything right.

What is there to lose if Christianity is false? That's an exceedingly weak argument. I could substitute Islam for Christianity and make the same argument. Over a billion people believe in that religion. What if it's the true religion? What then, is there to lose by believing in it? What's one to do, believe in all of them? But how can one do that, when they conflict? Besides, how can one believe something one finds ridiculous?

I don't care what people believe, but you brought up Christianity, and you're trying to proselytize. I guess, since Christians have been predicting the end of the world for the last 2000 years, the Christian point of view regarding that can go in this thread, but please leave out the proselytizing.
