Still pretty close to universal today. Particularily, since every American feels the obligation to have an opinion on every topic. Few have the restraint to remain devoutly agnostic in the face of the question of the existance of God (or god, if you prefer) Atheism, as much as Christianity or Islam demands a statement of faith about the unknowable. Three thousand years of trying have pretty much showed that neither the existence nor the non existence of God is subject of proof.

Belief in GOD (whatever God) is a matter of faith. It CANNOT BE PROVEN. If you believe, YOU must take this on FAITH alone...
THE REAL QUESTION IS, "could Jesus be a Conservative?"
Jesus is for all of us even those who hate him as he dose not want to loose anyone. The only name I will pin on Jesus is savior. He came he taught and he died for ALL of us and everyone who be leaves in him will be saved. It seams all we want to do these days is pin some name on someone we dont agree with and I say who cares it all comes down to what is in our heart.
As I have said before, if Jesus, yes that one, were here today he would be a democrat. I base this on a few facts that we know about him.
First he was from the middle east so his skin was more brown then white, he most likely had brown eyes, not blue.
Second he was a man of the poor, hung with them, fed them, cured there illnesses, he hung around the scum of the earth, these were his people, he did not come into town in a gold chariot but on an ass.
Third, he was not a christian which is the next step I see for the Republican Party and Tea Party goers, I could be wrong but as I look at this group it leans that way and Jesus, yes that one, was not a Christian, far far from it, he was a Rabbi, a Jew.
Forth and this is where I am going to get into trouble with most all Christians but I believe he was also married, my reason for this is simple. If you understand the Jewish religion you would know that at that time they had match makers and his marriage would have been arranged for him when he was 10 or 12 years old, next as a Rabbi, he would not have been taken serious or even acknowledged had he not been married. So if we are to assume that he was married then to who, that would be Mary, she was always there with him, it was she and his mother that dressed him in the tomb. Note only a very close relative been allowed in there to do this. It was Mary who he first saw after his resurrection not his disciples.
I was and still am an Analysts, that what I did for a living, this is the only conclusion I can draw from this even though the bible does not say it was so does not mean that it was not fact. The bible old and new testaments don't future women its all about men. We all know that women were just as big a part of this history as were the men, but remember that the book was written by men not women.
Agree with me or not, matter not to me. It is just my opinion for what its worth.
Was he the son of god, was he the savior, I don't know. That goes into faith and that is more of a personal nature between you and god.
Final thought, I do not wish to offend you if you believe in Jesus, yes that one, that is not my intent but only how I see Jesus as the man, not the god.
