We lived for a bit in a quonset hut house next to the mainline of the Union Pacific Railroad when my Dad got his job after college. That was during the tail end of steam engines. The Union Pacific Big Boy, which I think was the largest steam engine ever built, went by every day goinng to either Portland or Salt Lake. Mom said I was outside watching every time it went by. When you are a boy of 4 or 5, a steam engine of that size leaves you open jaw and staring. I do not remember all the details of what it really looked like, but I have a very vivid memory of a sensation of all the power on earth concentrated in that machine. That was when I decided I did not want to live my life in that farming town.

I do like the music from Texas. Jimmy Dale Gilmore and the old Roy Orbison come to mind right now. But there is so much more.
