It's there ability to embarrass you. In cooler periods of the year, one of my pair prefers to sleep on the cable box, something I'd not noticed until I had to summon the cable people to "fix" an apparent glitch. That's when it evolved that the problem was that the cable box had a fur ball. Fortunately, I have insurance for this sort of call so it cost me nothing to feel like a perfect fool.

A long time friend was over sharing her room mates cat choice to remain distant.
She knows I am a cat whisperer. I reminded her EVERYTHING a cat does in the presence of another being
is "political". Everything about the cat is a communication.
Comprende?
The posture, the tail position and action, where the cat decides to sit or lay down.
Old Fat Black Kitty is not sleeping in an area of activity (top perch cat furniture in Family room), semi activity (top of couch in Living Room) but, hidden ( I think I know where). OFBK is not inviting me to pet her in a nap period.
A brush of the leg with the tail, a vocalization, are social invitations. My friend took advantage of these behaviors.
In a few day she and her room mates cat are communicating more better.
Tales of Cat Tail Signals
Up Tail, happy and secure. There is also half mast, level and down. Down is when they are feeling guilty or otherwise skulking. What does the a little tip of the tail twitch mean? Big mystery. It isn't turned off on a bird stalk.
When I call OFBK and she isn't coming and trying to ignore me, minimally there is the tip tail twitch.

Never felt right without a cat in my life

You can look into their eyes and see such an understanding you don't get with many people. And I swear they're little furry cuckoos too. They slide right in where a child should be and they know exactly what they're doing, although as they age their own maternal instincts come out too when you're feeling low!

Dogs do the same thing, both of mine know when I am not feeling well and neither leave my side.

The cats are in their "winter mode".
After a few weeks of whiny behavior as Summer went to history,
:kittygray OFBK stays closer to home. Often happy with less outside time and spending it near the family room slider window looking in. She now has three regular sleep stations. The top of the cat furnature in the family room. I take that as being social. On top of the couch in the living room and on a pillow on a rocking chair in my bedroom which I treat as her "do not disturb" area. I am feeding her more canned food to get her off the carbs of the hard food so she won't become Old FatTER Black Kitty. Yet she can jump over a 24" fence with such perfect grace and agility. And score hill meat.
The

brothers are more overtly social and demanding. They sleep with me late at nite.
With the end of Summer they seek out the sunny places in the afternoon and nap in the sun.
Little Izzy seems to have much less appitite and is coaxed with some canned food now.
Solly, like BIG Saul, continues to grow and chow down well. He begs canned food when he smells it and receives it.
After one of the buggiest Summers, I do believe the flea problem is controlled.
BTW I have never had cats as old as these. Previously my cats usually got cancer or kidney failure and diet at age 13.
The

brothers are 14 and a half years old.
OFBK :kittygray is 2 years older. She use to stray through the yard before acquiring the
She is more tolerant of the brothers and is the boss.

Sorry to hear that Moi
Kidney failure seems a big one - it's so hard to get them to drink. I've got mine a cat fountain and she seems to like it. They're pretty cheap. No more running to the sink every time I turn the tap on anyway!

I keep water stationed several places around the house to to encourage water drinking. They really like coffee mugs over bowls.
OFBK regularly drinks brackish water on her first excursion outside in the morning.
Maybe it tells her who has been in the neighborhood or works to strengthen immunity like oral vaccination.
Cats have incredible immune systems. Resist infections better then dogs or people.

I put out two bowls, next to each other, one is a big bowl, they do drink from it, the other is a small bowl they will drink it dry before using the one next to it, they the cat and dog will wait for the other to finish to use the small bowl, I fill it several times a day, the big one will be just over half empty each morning when I refill it.
If the small one gets empty even if the other one is half full of water, my dog will take the bowl in mouth and bring it to me, yes she dumps it at my feet.
We all have our jobs and mine is servant.
