I bought cardboard boxes from Amazon but ever since my work moved 300 people about a half mile to new buildings I knew to buy smaller boxes -- 10"x10", 8"x8" or 12 long x 8high" x 6"deep. Our movers appreciated the smaller boxes because the big boxes weighed too much. I appreciate that too. Who wants to pick up an 18" by 12" box of books?

I discovered that there is one book left in my bedroom and it is Umberto Eco's THE NAME OF THE ROSE. I have to find a library that will take some of these. I also found five (5) phone books. My county is small and they make this small and rather useless phone books that I kept putting aside. There were 8 unread National Geographic monthlies from 2014.

In the books are some wonderful reads -- PRESUMED INNOCENT by Scott Turow, SOPHIE'S CHOICE by William Styron, A GENTLE MADNESS by Nicholas Basbanes, DIALOGUES WITH THE DEVIL by Taylor Caldwell, Martin Amis, Kenzaburo Oe, John D, McDonald, Albert Camus, Poppy Z Brite, and so many others...

They are all like friends.

I found my book of STEAM by Babcock and Wilcox. My Statistics book, several chemical engineering texts.

"How to Shit in the Woods" which is a very practical book.

And I have to add in my confessions...

I keep a 1st edition "The Rocket Team," by Frederick Ira Ordway and Mitchell R. Sharpe in my desk and I never let anyone touch it.

It was given to my Aunt by a man whose name is inside of it and he signed it to her. It is my keepsake.

He's the man who accepted the surrender of Werner and Magnus Von Braun at the end of WW2.

I also heard Werner Von Braun speak at Carnegie Mellon in 1971.

So I keep that book safe.

I finished reading "THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS" by M. L. Stedman. Her first novel. It's quite impressive. A bit unorthodox in style but readable.

It's now a movie in theaters. I suggest reading with a box of tissues at hand.

THE STORY: Tom Sherborne is a quiet man in 1918 New Zealand who, after serving four years in World War I, survived and has now found a good antidote to such carnage in a job offer: as lighthouse keeper at a remote site 100 miles from even the smallest village. He meets the love of his life and they marry. When two people love each other this much and just want to share that with children, but their luck is that of miscarriages, it makes for obvious drama when a lost-at-sea rowboat approaches the island with two people inside: a dead man and a frightened infant.

That begins a story of morality, truth and lies, and consequences -- a love story.

I think I will like the book (done and wrapped for a Christmas gift) more than the movie when I see it.

Lawsuit Alleges ‘Smart’ Vibrator Illegally Transmits User’s Intimate Data Back to Company

by Chris White | 1:57 pm, September 15th, 2016

We-Vibe via Standard Innovation

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Standard Innovation Corp., alleging the company sells products that “secretly collect and transmit highly sensitive personally identifiable information about the consumers using them.” The product at the center of the lawsuit is the company’s “sensual lifestyle products” specifically, a high-end “smart” vibrator called the We-Vibe.

According to new report by Gizmodo, hackers at the recent Def Con security conference first revealed the problems with We-Vibe “smart” vibrator. Specifically, the hackers reportedly showed how the “vibrators transmitted user data — including heat level and vibration intensity — to the company in real time.” In response to the Def Con findings, the company admitted to collecting “certain limited data” and promises to provide more transparency to users in the future.

Hmmmm. That's downright creepy. I think we'll stick with our dumb vibrator.

I just don't get it...

I, too, think it is creepy but like beyond creepy... like swarming spiders creepy, like lagoons of swine manure creepy, like dark woods on moonless nights creepy... like "Never in the delirious dream of a disordered brain could anything more savage, more appalling, more hellish be conceived" creepy...

Like the internet discussing "T" levels tonight creepy, like creepy creepy

🙄Targeted advertising anyone?

I mean - given the user identity (if application takes it from the phone) and big enough group - it is basically "big data". One can, probably, make interesting correlations, given different patterns.

Also, given the known usage patterns, one can design the vibrator, so it will break, say, few months after warranty ends (for your average user). And so on.

I still think it is creepy. Who sits at a computer console and seriously analyses the actions of a vibrator and the responses of a woman's body for money.

I mean think of -- "Daddy, daddy, wha did you do today?

"Well, honey, I optimized vibrations to give women greater orgasms by analyzing their innermost responses."

Crap-arino and "just kill me now" -- I'd rather be a quality control agent for toilet paper. Compared to analyzing vibrator responses, that's a worthy occupation. . .

This brings to mind a VERY old joke....

Stop at your pharmacy and go to the thermometer section and purchase a rectal thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson...

Be very sure you get this brand.

When you get home, lock your doors, draw the curtains and disconnect the phone so you will not be disturbed.

Change into very comfortable clothing and sit in your favorite chair Open the package and remove the thermometer.

Now, carefully place it on a table or a surface so that it will not become chipped or broken.

Take out the literature from the box and read it carefully.

You will notice that in small print there is this statement:

"Every Rectal Thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson is personally tested and then sanitized."

Now, close your eyes and repeat out loud five times,' I am so glad I do not work in the thermometer quality control department at Johnson & Johnson.'

Showed this to my hubby. His reaction: "And I thought my job stank."
