Something else fills it.

It becomes a stable empty space, a'la a cave.

It collapses in, with or without collapsing the surrounding and surface areas, which would in turn create other stable, empty spaces. A big enough collapse, and it could collapse the surface somewhere. However, as I understand it, these areas are usually far too deep for that.

The caldera at the summit of Kilauea where the active crater Halema'uma'u' was located has been collapsing with each of the near daily earthquakes.

Hawaii County Civil Defense administrator Talmadge Magno discussed it on here:
8/03/video-volcano-alternate-routes-planned-in-case-highway-11-fails/

The caldera floor has been deforming and that has been caught on camera several times.

Apparently, the magma chamber beneath the caldera has been collapsing.

The geologists discuss the possible next stage in this video:

Y'think it's big enough that the collapse would take Pahoa with it? ๐Ÿ™„

How I wish for a breath of "Fresh Air".

This humidity is just like canned, stale air.

Yesterday the sky and streets and buildings were orange

as the smoke from the Holy Fire appeared directly over head for a few hours.

So weird to see orange sidewalks. ๐Ÿšฌ

Humid. About 80F doesn't cool down below 70F at night.

The plants and fleas that live in soil are very happy.

BTW the empty space left may be filled by the great magma - mantle connection.

Maybe the reason why the Rift Valley is Africa is sinking.

Or even a harbinger of a Massive Earth Crust Displacement event.

What fills the space or is the caldera going to sink to China?

Not a chance in the fucking world.

Y'all are certainly capable of calculating the volume required to do such a thing and it's about half the island of Hawaii.

Try taking a quick look at extensional tectonics.

Dave

How is Dave'sWorld doing?

CBS Evening News seems to indicate the river rose and took you with it.

Don't worry about Moi.

I am way safe from the Holy Fire that went the other way from its' closest to Moi

40 minutes away by car.

Humidity due to return while tempertures remain around 80F

Higher moisture in the air makes it feel more polluted.

I am suspicious of pH.

No time.

I gotta go stir the great magma pool.

You can always write a few bars here relating to what do you mean, or not.

BTW Mr. Expert, SIR, the North America Plate and the Eurasian Plate are pulling apart making a bigger gap between them?

It splits Iceland and runs under the North Pole.

Is it releasing heat and melting he Arctic ice?

Thank you.

Stop Continental Drift!

HURRICANE HEADED TO RIVER LAND

Lots of rain predicted.

Could put out the volcano, maybe, y'think

News shows store shelves emptying.

Same here as previous report.

Humid. Stinky air. Not my desert by the sea.

Speaking of "volume"

How's your flood volume going? Downhill or handing around :D

Seems like Pennsylvania is flooding all over the State.

Doesn't anyone else have "weather".

Especially "weatherful" events such as flood, hurricane, tornado, fiery hail, etc.

The weather here is hardly weatherful. Moderate. So Southern California Coast, moderate.

Moisture has returned to the air with a blanket of AM marine layer.

New first as summer wraps up. House temp at 5 am was below AC set temperature. A few leaves have shades of yellow.
