Yea, I have never been a big cat lover until I got Rupert, he has truly changed my opinion.

Note: he allowed me to say that

Allowed you to say it, or did he make you say it?

O.F.B.K. has had this schedule.

A short outing at 11AM. A small nash at 11:15 AM. Back outside to the front yard until the mid afternoon nash. Then down the hill to the neighbors yard where she can see me and refuses to come in at sunset when I call her. Just gives me a tail twitch and eye contact as I call from up the hill.

So like a habit, I call the neighbor and I let myself in by the side gate. Usually she starts to head home when she sees me approach and we meet back at the house. The last few times she allows be to grab her and I carry her home by the human route, explaining to dog walkers that this is, walking the cat.

Today it changed. She went down after the 11:15 AM nash and returned at 4PM for a nash and inside nap. She is really getting more chunky and I do limit her food to 1/3 a cup. She is supplementing on hill meat.

When I see these, "My Cat from Hell" programs, these are all "apartment" cats.

Has anyone seen an episode involving a house cat, except the one found to be blind and cured?

Cats are about co-habitating. Each of us seems to have to give in a little while neither totally submits.

Solly, the big 🐈 brother is eating like a pig. Not getting fat, but grows. A big, big cat. Even at age 15 he continues to grow while his little brother Izzy eats little, pukes sometimes, and remains a featherweight. Izzy has not grown for years.

and refused to come upon calling.

Just as I was about to go fetch her, she appeared and consumed a really fat rodent.

She licked herself for a few minutes then came in demanding double feeding.

This old cat sure loves her hill meat, and it seems to be an appetizer no matter the size.

A relevant article from Al Jazeera English. The original site includes a dozen very nice photos of the “staff” and customers.

Killing time in Japan cat cafés

Lonely hearts pay for feline friendship during hour-long sessions in cat-filled coffee shops

Dave Tacon

Al Jazeera English

14 October 2012

Osaka, Japan - Japanese love animals, but pets are often forbidden by landlords of the tiny flats where most people dwell.

The solution: cafés where pet-less patrons pay $11 an hour to hang out in a room full of felines. Cat cafés are proliferating in Japan, serving up friendship for the lonely and curious - albeit briefly.

More than a dozen cats of all shapes, sizes, and colours populate the restaurants, as staff serve piping hot coffee and creamy cakes. Persians, Tabbies, and Siamese laze around, clean themselves, and eat cat food out of colourful bowls as patrons meet and greet them.

In Osaka, about 520 kilometres west of the capital Tokyo, the Cat Time café is one of 10 such establishments in the country’s third-most populous city.

Cat Time has 21 “cat staff”, working the room alongside two humans. Waitress Tamao Ishikawa trained as a veterinarian, and knows all too well each cat’s personal traits, which she shares with visitors. She works around dozing animals perched on display cases, countertops, and curled up next to coffee makers.

No common tabbies are employed here. Cat Time is staffed by an assortment of pedigree breeds including Exotic Shorthairs, Maine Coons, and American Curls. But the cat’s meow here is one-eyed BJ - short for Blackjack - a placid Ragdoll who attracts the most customer attention.

While the atmosphere is laid back, there are rules: no shoes, no shouting and no smoking. Guests must let sleeping cats lie, and any form of cat cruelty is strictly prohibited.

Cat cafés have also spread to Taiwan, South Korea and China.

Japan is at the forefront of the pet rental industry. In Tokyo, there are more than 100 pet rental businesses. Customers can lease anything from a turtle to a parrot for an hour to a week. Dogs, however, are the most popular part-time pet.

You are not going to lick a cat with your coffee? Are you? :)

PS. A bit off topic: Vitruvian Cat (http://static.diary.ru/userdir/2/7/4/8/ ... 492800.jpg).

The letters under it say "Da Vinci Cat" (A word play in Russian with "Da Vinci Code", which differ by one letter).

For years I have communicated with Hakan of Istanbul and occasionally there is a cultural stumble that takes me a long time to finally, get it. One such recent event was "cat ownership". I remember "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and Danial Craig moved into that guest house. A cat appeared and it was au naturale for him to adopt the guest house cat.

My Russky Wife said her cat Patrick took the elevator. People knew who he was and punched the floor where he belonged.

Now the situation of more or less, co-existence without the same level or ownership.

Those who know me know I am a poor reader and avoid heavy reading, these links are worth the read.

http://www.minordiversion.com/2012/04/s ... -istanbul/

I am impressed at the Istanbul system and sense of co-existence and humanitarianism.

I am glad it is not the American system or I would be feeding so many dogs and cats.

I imagine this system must be a burden on visiting Arabs and those where street dogs are to be feared or disdained.

I saw an article awhile back about a bed and breakfast where you could reserve a cat with your room. They had 8-10 cats with their profiles online, and when you reserved your room you had the option of reserving a specific cat.
