Re: There's Always The Weather
DAMNIT, it rained again. THe weatherman predicted a cloudy day so I left the beagle outside. When I arose at 5:30 am, it was raining chipmunks so I brought the beagle inside. The person who normally feeds him didn't so I gave him all the leftover cornbread.

Twenty years ago, I had to help prepare a position paper and to do it, I had to learn more than I knew about the Weather (meteorology, as those scientists say). I still don't know much meteorology. I'm happier with tanks, valves, and thermodynamics. . . However, I came away with the understanding that the parts of the USA that were wet would stay wet and the parts of the USA that were dry would stay dry. That was based on the yearly patterns of the Jet stream. Jet Streams (More properly, upper level winds) move high and low pressure cells around the world.
It meant much of the southwest (including California) would get dryer and experience more droughts. Parts of the USA where I lived (the Ohio Valley) were wet and would get wetter. That changed when the Polar Vortex moved away from the North Pole. Apparently, the new jet stream patterns are that, in winter, parts of California get drenched and parts of the Ohio Valley gets severe cold. I have a friend on Facebook who lives in Germany and he is having severe cold as the Polar Vortex moved over Europe.
That's why it's raining cats, dogs, chipmunks, moles, and possibly miniature poodles named FiFi in your neighborhood.
Either that, or Jove is really raping Venus and she's crying on California.
Watch those Jet Streams.

Re: There's Always The Weather
Week after week after week of overcast skies in the normally sunniest place (four corners area > NW New Mexico) of the States! I'm about to slowly die. -Wondering if I should go east to get some sunshine or something. I heard sunny southern Cal is suffering from this constant dreary overcast cloudiness too. Actually their sending it on to us! My eyes are slowly receding into my head and heavy eyelids are gradually sealing shut.

Today is supposed to be the last of the rain for a few days. It's too wet outside and it's all Moi's fault

And just less than 100 miles as the crow flies, no racism intended
across a minor mountain range or two - nearer the ocean, Pacific
each rain barely delivers half an inch. More often a quarter.
Sod soaker style. Not gully washer like Mid California and north.
Witness the the Russian River - Blame Putin.
and "Moi's Water Reserve", in the High Sierra is being secured.
I wish for a gully washer.
I :hearthrob to go to the ocean when it rains hard, and feel the energy of the weather and the
waves and the atmosphere.
One memorable weatherful time I shared the moment in a county park designed for a flood.
We had black rubber boots and I knew where the concrete path was. Wow was a few inches of water forceful.
We could almost walk up to a Great Egret or Blue Heron when it would just spread its' wings and without a flap,
effortlessly glide away from us in the dark, gray, rain.
I wish for a gully washer and someone to share it with me.
Moi

Oh quit yer whining!

It went from 60F to 30 here in one day, storms, heavy rain, high winds, back to 60, back to 30, storms, and now freezing rain and ice accumulation moving in.
I've settled in for the next two days at least, and not going out for anything!

Hooray the rains stopped and moved to Paolo's house
. Now to get a shovel and a large trash compactor to put all the squirrels, moose, camels and elephants
Re: There's Always The Weather
With this weather system coming in, we closed down until Tuesday, as a lot of stuff in this town isn't open Monday anyway - so neither are we.
Lot of cooking to do, including:
Angel hair 'lower' carb pasta in marinara with plenty of cheese and nice red wine.
Crock pot ham and 15-bean mix.
Oyster stew, heavy on the butter and black pepper.
Vegetable beef soup, in other crock pot.
That should hold me and the two remaining dogs for the next 3 days.
