The well-fed and collared cat who lives somewhere in our neighborhood, but who is trying very hard for us to adopt him, leaves a dead rodent on our front step about every other day. He's making a significant dent in the local population. He also looks very self satisfied when we discover his gift and demands a can of catfood in return....

OFBK (Old Fat Black Kitty) use to be a great rat killer. At first I witnessed her gulping them snake style with the tail coming out their mouth last.
As she got older she filleted her rats but still ate them whole.
She is now about 16 or 17 years old as best I can assemble her 5 homes in the n'hood and I have had her for over 5 years. She has given up on rats.
Maybe the good rat killing cats are the younger ones who still learn eve without being taught.
My N'hood dearly needs a resurgence of Cat Servers!
Gray, like the rain storms are tying to come down the northern coast, normal fashion.
The Loquats are flowering with future fruit. Probably the end of February
Lovely, Gray Days. Cool.

So it is fall break and we went to Vegas with the kids and their friends. I woke up on departure day with an ache in my ear. I poured in a little hydrogen peroxide and it fizzed and bubbled. I was OK thru the morning, but it really began to hurt in the afternoon and I had some really sharp pains by midnight. Next morning I went to a doc in the box. She diagnosed it as swimmer's ear and gave me a prescription for the pharmacy. So I went to CVS, turned in my prescription and went to sit in one of the three seats they had for people waiting. One lady was already sitting waiting. This Black lady with an really, really obvious baby bump turned in her prescription and then stood around. Finally I stood up and invited her to sit - please. I told her I was born in mid-summer in pre-air conditioning Iowa and my two younger brothers were born in December. That brought up a comment or two about being pregnant in heat ie Las Vegas. I said I had a boy and a girl. The lady sitting down told about her kids. The pregnant lady said her's was a girl and she was due in 7 weeks. We just had a casual talk about kids and family until my prescription was done and I was left. It is nice how doing something for another person leads to a pleasant little experience which you remember longer than you remember the weather that day (it actually was rather nice). Now if I can only get my wife to forget about the Vegas vacation that went to hell in a hand basket.

It is actually not a gift, it is a warning - either feed me, or you are next

How much did you get?
I got hardly 1/10th to 1/8th of an inch with local weather internet thingies reporting "zero".
And now we have a Hot Swing, like 20F+ up in 2 days
and more rain possible early next week.
These swings are more natural and are good harbingers to a normal rain year.
Better than El Ninozilla anyways.
The Pecans ripen as some husks split open and the Loquat flower.

Yesterday alone we received an inch of rain. It was the worst thunder and lightning that I have ever lived through. Would have been great if I was up watching a thriller

The cottonwoods in northern Nevada are turning golden. Kind of a nice time of year.
