Re: There's Always The Weather
Here in Seattle we had the coldest and wettest spring on record and summer is more of same. We had one day over 80 (81) in the last ten months, and have been stuck in the sixties for weeks, and drizzling. I love it.

Re: There's Always The Weather
On hearing the weather report for the next several days, I buttoned down the hatches, (closed all the windows) bared the door and turned on the AC, stayed inside all day, the couple times I had to let the little ones out, (dogs) I felt the humidity and decided my plan was good one.
River staying cool at 70 deg, actually its a little to cold.

Minneapolis. AC on high, 72 F. one fan to move the air around. Went out for dinner tonight with friends. The AC in truck was so cold, my glasses fogged when I got out. Wiped em clear and they fogged again. Hot humid air and I do not get along - makes it hard to breath. That's why I don't live way south! Just heard from Manhattan KS. Hotter than Hades there, and Kurt loves it. Just wierd, the people I hang with. Of course I don't mind 30F at all.

Re: There's Always The Weather
I was in Las Vegas once when it was 110 degrees F and attempting to get into a car in the sun was a truly amazing act of courage.
Nothing cooled down below burning hot. And once you get in and get the air conditioner working full ... you reach 90 degrees and that's it.
Then a local hick says "but it's a dry heat" and I want to drop kick his asshole through his head...

Re: There's Always The Weather
I wonder if I could adapt to heat. I don't think I could be a snow season person from arthritic experience in Milwaukee. For the last few decades the heat just knocks the Bajeezus out of me. No amount of loose light weight clothing and hat, water, salt, etc. works. My usually low stamina goes to zero and I gotta go down. Usually a headache too.
The Seattle area experience sounds like fertile ground for SAD. A low sunlight disorder associated with depression. Having lived in the fog zone of "the City" for four years, I know I do not do well without some sun.
I do not understand people who choose to live in areas where touching the car door handle often results in second degree burns, ala Vegas. Any desert lovers here.

Having lived in the Palm Springs area in the early 70's and in the central valley of Cal, and St Louis, there is a big difference between a dry heat and humid heat. Both are hot and the dry heat can get a lot higher if your not careful it can kill, the humid heat is just be more miserable then the dry even if the temp never gets above 100.
In a dry heat put on a sweat shirt and you will stay cool, don't try that in a humid heat. Make no mistake both are hot, and I have been in Vegas when it was well over 100 and you just can't breath.

I love how you Northerlies can't take heat!
They're predicting mid/upper 90's for central Indiana/Illinois this coming week, with high humidity which will make the heat index feel like 115F.
Last year, on the flight to the MOM, I had jeans and a hoodie on, and I was still cold. I walked into the airport and almost had a stroke - it was cold enough to hang meat in there. As I recall, last year, most of the local crowd was panting and suffering while I had a sweatshirt on...sitting in the sun.

Re: There's Always The Weather
He speaks the truth, last year at the mom it was in the high 80's and P had his Hoodie on with the hood up, I thought about getting him a blanket, then again if he would put on a little weight he would not have that problem. For those of you who have never met us, Paolo is a little skinny guy no fat on that frame, then there is me, I have not seen my toes in years, now I wont say I am fat, (I will leave that for others) as I don't think of myself that way, but OK, I am fat so I have lots of insulation and don't need a Hoodie mine is build in.

http://news.yahoo.com/worst-heatwave-ye ... 30258.html
"CHICAGO (Reuters) - An oppressive and potentially deadly summertime mix of sizzling temperatures and high humidity baked a large swath of the country again on Sunday, pushing afternoon heat indexes in dozens of cities to dangerous levels."
"The National Weather Service posted excessive heat warnings for much of the country's midsection, including Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, as well as South and North Dakota, where forecasters predicted heat indexes could hit 115 degrees."
"Cities especially hard hit by the heat included Rapid City, South Dakota, Springfield, Illinois, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, where AccuWeather.com meteorologists were predicting long-standing high-temperature records would fall this week."
See what happens when you don't have an ocean nearby. OMG it is going to get up to 74F tomorrow, fog staying off shore due to humid monsoon air heading in from south Arizona way.

Remember, if you get to choose an ocean, choose the one on the left.

Re: There's Always The Weather
Moi, do you realize that Minnesota has more coast line then California? We did not need you to tell us it was hot, we live here, every summer it does this a couple times for a week or so. You just fill up your mug with the thing you like the most and head outside and enjoy it, take it in, bath in it because you know its not going to last. Last night I was visiting my neighbor when it started to sprinkle 100% humidity unlike you fair weather types who would have run for cover (actually you would not even been out side) we sat there and enjoyed the moment.
Moi, don't you ever get tired of it always being the same? BORING. If it rains you get mud slides and the new house down the street slides into the ocean. If it gets to hot you guys bitch like its the only place in the world that its ever happened to, when it gets cold the world is coming to an end, you see Moi, the people here in the mid west are tough people, they take what comes and move on. Its not a big deal, really.
