Neither of mine is rock hard; the left one is closer. You might need to reinject the left one.
I've noticed a few very consistent things between my own experience, reports on here and from friends, and animal studies:
- Under 1mL is not usually sufficient to do the job. Again, think of it as 'pickling' the ball (because that's what you are literally doing - that's what CaCl does). You have to have enough liquid. Some report as high as 2mL, which seems to be excessive for all but the biggest balls (and even that may not be a good measure, because seminiferous tubules density may vary between testicles, yielding different take-up). It seems to be settling in that 1.5mL may in fact be the optimal dose.
- 20% solution with saline is insufficient to guarantee results, period.
- 20% solution with Ethanol is more effective, but still falling short, with many choosing re-injection. That is always to be avoided if possible.
- 32% solution in purified water did the job in a single 1.1mL injection, but it took 10 months.
- 30% solution in Ethanol appears to be the ideal single dose, to do the job fully, and in under 6 months.
Sources of pain:
- Needle penetration: Nearly none, even at 25ga, less at 27-30ga.
- Injection pressure: If you haven't injected saline before, then the stretch feeling of injection the solution may be uncomfortable. Easy solution, just go very, very slowly.
- Expansion pressure: After a proper injection, a testicle can expand up to 500%. Not a typo. This may be uncomfortable to some people, I found it enjoyable. Expect 3-5 days in this range. Ibuprofen should be enough if it's bothersome.
- Burning pain: More than a trivial amount is not a normal part of the process. Hold an empty syringe next to the testicle and model where it will be. Be sure to only inject the front face or from the bottom (inferior pole), then use the veterinary method of going deep into the ball, even past the center, and slowly, slowly releasing the CaCl as you withdraw to cover a large area -- BUT, make sure 100% of it has been injected before reaching the surface!! The capsule is not injured by these concentrations of solution. If you avoid the epididymous and ensure that none leaks into the scrotum, you should have no ongoing burning at all.
