First time poster here and I just want to say I like the site and am glad the stories are back.
I just have a quick question, are any of the stories dealing with clitoridectomies going to be reposted ?

I can't remember the names of those stories, but yes. I have already edited some, and I know they are there. We've tried to update some of every type. I've been mostly concentrating on large collections.
If you don't find what you like, keep coming back. It will be there soon.

Oh, ok. Thanks for the quick reply.

I just did a very quick and rough count of how many stories have been edited, checked, and released from the holding tank. By my count, there are already 667 stories available, of the 10,000+ from the old archive. This is very quick work, and I'm sure that the volunteers will tire and slow down soon....

If I ever get any customer calls and get some work, I may slow down. I am bored, so I do stories. Bragging: 31 today. Place more ads maybe. very slow season.

Thanks for deciding to bring the stories back, and for all the hard work involved in doing so. One problem I've seen with the fiction archive in the past is that many of the stories have not been edited for spelling, grammar, or style. Does anyone else think adding that sort of editorial review to the submission process would help improve the quality of the archive? Personally, I tend to get annoyed by stories where guys "loose" their balls and the ones where every other punctuation mark is an exclamation point. Ideally, authors and editors could work together to get a draft story ready for inclusion.

Right now, we're trying to get the Archive back online reformatted for the new story software.
Are you volunteering to edit every new story submitted to the Archive? As one of the past story moderators, it wasn't my job to edit stories for grammar or to replace words like lose for loose - although it's a mistake that always irks me, too. It was my job to see they weren't too badly formatted or contain too much misspelling and to see that they were stories appropriate for the Archive. With the old story editor, that was about all we could do. Editing a story in it was a royal pain.
The new story editor will make it much easier to correct formatting and spelling, but don't expect any of us to re-write the submitted stories. That's not how it works. An author submits a story, and we release or reject it. Most of us have a life outside of the Archive - although some might not feel like they do right now.
I have a solution for you, though: if you find a story that annoys you, don't fucking read it.

I second this statement.
Even with the new editing software, it would slow things down a lot. I got off work at 6:00pm. That's when I started editing stories. I just decided to call it a night now. It is midnight. I managed to get through 28 stories.
If I had to also read through each one to catch loose, lose type errors, then
1) I would probably only get through 4 or 5 stories in that time
and
2) I would go mad.
I actually run the built in spell checker on the program to make sure the words are at least spelled correctly. Though I've given up on British spellings / American spellings. I've stopped caring if color is spelled colour. I am mostly concerned that the format is readable, and all the letters look like letters and not weird characters.
I've only been editing for a short while, but I have a whole new appreciation of what people like Slammr have had to go through.
Moral of the story. We are all getting the stories back. Don't be too picky on how they look when they get here.
and
Be extra nice to Slammr and all the moderators. You have no idea the work they are putting into this.
Oh, and I just need to say this, because I haven't yet.
WoooHooo!!! WE'RE GETTING THE STORIES BACK!!!!
[Now, I'm back to work.]

OK, pal, here's the reason -
Out of almost 10k stories on the Archive, I've read and released about 9k of them.
I've probably rejected about 1k more.
All this while working full time at one job, at least, helping raise 5 boys, taking care of a grandparent slowly sliding into dementia, and having at least 1 dog all the while.
Yeah, things like the old "there, their, they're" and "lose vs. loose" error have gotten through.
At any given time of posting stories, they were in a nice format depending on the "script du'jour" that was posting them.
I was actually spell-checking and reading the corrections on each story now, then I realized that one of those tea-swilling, funny-talking fellows from across the Atlantic sticks a "U" where it doesn't belong and doesn't use the suffix "-ize" in favor of "-ise".
Ad two thsi teh fcat taht teh mnid cna revsrve letetrs adn stlil raed ro flil tihngs in.
Sometimes, even most of the time, one doesn't SEE errors when reading.
I have to agree, if you're annoyed, don't read it.
While you're at it, kiss my ass.
Thank you very much.
