Get over the goddamn guilt. Yeah, Christianity is responsible for some really bad things but it reformed itself and has more than made up for the excesses of men hiding behind the name of the church in the past. I don't feel a goddamn bit of guilt because I had nothing to do with the atrocities nor do I feel any guild for slavery. In fact, my ancestors were treated worse because they were Irish and they were free, slaves cost money.

I have read the koran as well as the Bible, Mein Kamph (that was an labor), as well as numerous others. They all contain some good ideas but that doesn't lessen the evil of the bad things they contain nor excuse those who commit evil in the name of whatever god they follow.

If we really want to get down to nitty gritty, the history of islam is nothing but conquest and oppresson; both of their neighbors and the follower of islam. It does NOTHING but destroy.

I could offer dozens of examples of how, in the name of Christianity, tens of thousands were tortured and murdered by Christian holy inquisitors, Christian Crusaders, etc. I recall one guy who was burned at the state by the Christian chuch for the horrible crime of...translating the Bible from Latin to English.

The Christian church has a as violent history as does Islam...maybe even worse.

I'll never understand why some people hate the idea that freedom is good. After all, that's what "liberal" means -- one who favours increased freedom. How will that destroy America? You might not be as safe as you would in a GOP-controlled police state. But anyone who isn't a complete piece of shit would rather be free and risk a 0.0001% chance of dying in a terrorist attack than be perfectly safe in a police state that monitors and controls every aspect to their lives in order to ensure perfect enforcement of the law.

Remember, there's no society with less terrorism and crime than a Fascist police state. If you want to be safe, that's what it will take. Only that complete level of social control allows criminal elements to be completely extinguished. Crime was virtually non-existent in Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. But in any free society, you're at least a small amount danger all the time. That's just how freedom works -- freedom by its very nature allows the opportunity to do bad things and hurt other people.

Think about the second amendment -- by letting people own guns, you put EVERYONE in danger. It takes all of one minute to go from legitimate gun owner to multiple murderer. The only way to prevent it would be to ban guns entirely, and to send the police/military around to collect every single weapon and destroy them all ... no doubt requiring them to kill a lot of gun owners who rightfully resist that kind of intrusive police-sate bullshit. Giving trials to terrorists, requiring the DHS to get warrants before monitoring people's phone calls, abolishing the secret prison camps and torture facilities, it does make you slightly less safe -- but free.

Freedom should alway trump cowardice. If you want to be free, you can't be completely safe.
