(1) The need to avoid rushing to judgment,

and

(2) The trouble people (in this case, this creep) can cause others and themselves by not keeping separate the worlds of fantasy and reality.

I especially agree with your first point. In fact, a totally nonjudgmental world would likely be very pleasant, and certainly absent a lot of the wars and strife and pestilance and hunger that we witness today.

Just my $0.02 worth....

Actually this sort of thing is very common. Any police department that has had to deal with a high profile murder case will tell you how one of the obstacles it faces in its investigation are the innocent people who come in and confess for one reason or another.

Yeah, they have had dozens of confessions already for the JonBenet killing. It just seemed that with the arrest and such that the authorities seemed to have a bit more than the confession -- I guess not!

Confession to crimes one did not commit must be some sort of psychological combination of self hate (or suicidal) tendencies with some desire for attention. Definitely weird.

Wonder if we'll ever know the truth...personally from the little I know I think the parents really are somehow involved. I'd heard rumors back in the day from a cop involving the supposed intentionally botched investigation and cover up. It all makes me very sad for the poor girl then and angry at the system but now it's just typical every day crap.

To think about what that poor little girl had to go through... :(
