I underwent castration and scrotal removal on april 8 2005 and right now I still have a 4-5 inch scar but it is fading fast the incision for your basic castration will be 1" or less and barring adhesions (they happen even under the best circumstances)that should be almost invisible in just a few months it really doesn't matter who performs the castration the incision will still be about 1" max.

I thought I would let you guys know what's going on with me. I went to a psychiatrist in Palm Springs last week, working to get another referral for the doctor in Beverly Hills. I thought I would have to go for many visits before he would be willing to help me, I was wrong. After a 1.5 hr. talk, he told me he would write a letter for me. Both he and my phycologist have been great about wanting to help. Both doctors are in aggrement that I am gender disphoric and don't know if being castrated will be the end of it. I told them it will have to do, because I can't go any farther. I have too much invested in my family and job to jeopardize them. I care too much about those around me to put them through my changing gender. There is a phycologist, Gianna E. Israel, who has articles on line that give me a little hope. She says that in many of the men she has worked with castration has stopped the feelings. I can only hope. I would make one big ugly girl. That's BUG for short. Any way things are progressing but I won't be able to be castrated until Oct. or Nov. and maybe not then. I may have to wait until I can use next years vacation time. I can't help thinking, had I made the trip to Philly I would be in the healing process now. But maybe this is all for the best.

Things are moving right along for me. The surgeon has recieved the two letters of reference he requested and I have an appointment to see him tomarrow for consultation. I don't think he would be seeing me if he wasn't willing to do it. More later.

In all actuality, my own findings show that uncovered cuts, licked by the dog, heal about 50% faster than cuts treated with Neosporin and BandAids.
Go figure.
I would not however, recommend having your dog lick your crotch after it is all said and done...

Well I'm back from the doc. First good rain in Los Angeles added 2 hrs. to my 2hr. drive. The docter is a great guy but I have one more hurdle to cross before he will do the surgery. I have to see a psychiatrist that he knows for final evaluation. He says what I want is very unusual and wants to be sure I know what I'm doing. I hate people that are sue happy, they make it harder for the rest of us. I can see why most guys give up and go to Philly or cutters. I'm not giving up yet. If it's going to happen, I wan't it done the right way. Maybe God is trying to tell me something.

Good Steve!!! It's not a bad thing to get a letter from a psychologist. It should not take that long either, and you will be glad you took precautionary steps. Transsexuals only have to live as a woman for a year to be recommended for SRS, but that's only because we are switching whole genders. Nobody is going to know what is in your pants, so I should think it would only take a couple sessions to go back to the doctor with a letter in hand.
You should try to find a shrink that deals with Gender Dysphoria/Transsexuals. They're used to writing letters for genital alteration, and far more likely to think of you as stable minded. Other psychologists might think you're a little loony, or that this isn't the best road for you based on their biases. Might be better off with a psych used to similar issues... just a thought.

I was surgically castrated by a cutter and all went well but if I had to do it over again I would find a surgeon. I have mentioned in the past about little aftercare but since I worked in healthcare I knew how to take care of myself and what to do if problems would arise. One thing I had the cutter do was use a cauterizer to seperate the testicle from the cord. The cords still swelled up but I never had problems with adhesions. I thought cauterizing would make sure I did not have problems later and the lack of adhesions was a bonus. I new sterile technique so I made sure everything was done correctly. If I had an adverse reaction to anything would the cutter have been able to help? Probably not. I was lucky and I now realize the risk I took in wanting this done so badly. You are doing the brave and most appropriate thing by contacting professionals and having everything above board. I was not aware of the site and all the wonderful support. What a great community.
