Mac,

Flomax is a medication commonly used in a nasal spray form, also. It shrinks the mucous membranes and it does not hafe the "rebound" that the typical decongestants have. The nose spray is used for sinus congestion. The "rebound" of a decongestant/antihistanine bought over the counter is so harsh that it can cause obstruction of the urethra in individuals with benign prostatic hypertrophy.

Follow the doctor's advice closely. Trans-Urethral Resection or TUR is still a possibility, and you may want to ask about it as it would effect a permanent cure, as would castration. It does not hurt to ask. Tell him that you have been reading information in different places on the Internet. Tell him that you did a google search for information after talking to a friend.

🚬 A-1 🚬Yes, it is a possibility but he did not want discuss it at the last office visit. He wanted to put me on this medication first as my urine retention was at what he called a dangerous level. It appears to be working as I am able to go longer in between. However, I sometimes have such great urgency that I now know how women feel when they really have to go and find it impossible to hold it back. It is a rather uncomfortable feeling.

I will find out more at my next visit. Would be nice if he would suggest castration along with it but that is probably not realistic.

Thanks for the suggestion.
