I am not sure I would go that far. Part of my work is separating the wheat from the chaff on resource exploration projects. It is easy and glib to say you can tell when a Canadian promoter is lying - the lips are moving. That is not entirely true and there are people who are very upfront and honest. It really is not hard to tell one from the other. Life usually is complicated and nuanced. When someone lobs an oversimplification with hot button words, my bullshit meter pegs. A sure bet drill prospect. Bullshit. A couple of days ago there was a statement from a Jim Bakker, a throwback to a 1970s televangelist sex and money scandle, that anyone who does not vote for ____ was not going to heaven. Unmitigated bullshit. I actually think in a general way the coverage on a network that gets lots of insults isn't that bad - IF your bullshit filter is engaged. There is reasonable coverage available. Don't think my nose is in the air (it isn't actually that expensive), but generally (not 100%) I pretty much trust the Wall Street Journal.

This point piqued my curiosity. Could you develop it a bit more, in another thread if you feel you would be hijacking.
New Zealand education providers are heavily dependent on enrolments of Chinese students. In one sense, New Zealand is an exporter of education services.
Coronavirus: Universities seek travel ban exemption for students

The government says the travel restriction aimed at stopping the spread of coronavirus (officially named Covid-19) has prevented 11,280 or 41 percent of the Chinese students now due in New Zealand from travelling here.
Among those stuck in China were 6742 enrolled with universities (53 percent of the total number of Chinese students enrolled with universities), 2225 school students (30 percent of the school total) and 1128 polytechnic students (41 percent of the polytechnic total).
The ban was introduced on 2 February for a period of 14 days. On Saturday Health Minister David Clark announced it would be extended for another eight days.
The director of Universities New Zealand, Chris Whelan, said the ban had disrupted the lives of the affected students and if it was not lifted the universities could lose about $170 million in fees.
"From our point of view it's extremely serious," Whelan said.

Keeping the virus contained is more important than money. If it spreads it could go global. So stop being greedy.

It's amazing the B.S. that comes from those evangelicals. But that's how they fleece their flock.

Short sighted and greedy school officials are clearly putting their personal paychecks above human life. Schools are a perfect method to cause a pandemic from one infected student living among other students who would then all spread the disease to their familes, coworkers, public transit passangers and infinitely balloon any contagious disease quickly. Schools would be closed, not merely operating with fewer students, if a deadly disease was spreading.
Jail those greedy school officials for seeking dangerous exemptions ! They have zero regard for human lives and zero brains.

However you believe, most religious leaders do routinely endorse political ideas and people who break every one of their own 10 commandments or whatever religious beliefs their religion CLAIMS to believe in to keep the sheep paying money into that religion s pockets.
It is undeniable that laws and politics do take moral positions publically and that religions need to try to follow their own beliefs in getting their members to vote in ways that honor and uphold what each religion claims to hold sacred.
Otherwise religions will become empty of any moral values, irrelevant in public life, and nothing but stages for hypocrites to parade around pretending to be holier than thou, which already happens far too much.
Nothing bans any religion from advising their members on how to vote morally. The problem is that most religions value money and political favors more than their own beliefs and most have terrible people in positions of power within each religion.
That s my personal opinion. Others will certainly disagree. Antheism acts much like a religion in politics, as do many one issue poltical interests who claim any kind of a moral basis or component in their public positions.

I know this website hates any divisive political comments. So, I tried to refrain from endorsing or promoting any one party or person in my comments. Just very general comments on politics in general.

It is interesting what is happening now. Not to pick on any particular religion, but I have banged around Latin America since 1990. For years the church and sex were running jokes. Now it seems attendance is really being affected. Same can be said for service organizations. There was an article in the last few days that the national Baptist organization expelled a church because the pastor was a sex offender. All of this brings up interesting questions of forgiveness, safety of young ones, respect for established institutions and what life would be like with no moral anchors.
