Yes, I have Viagra (sildenafil) and it does help. If there is no arousal and beginnings of an erection the viagra doesn't make it erect. But if the the penis is trying to become erect some viagra in the blood stream helps it become fuller.
I haven't taken Viagra, but Cialis is very effective for me. It also requires stimulation.

I have taken 5mg for 90 days and I m no longer having erections without a major attempt to get excited. My libido is still intact but it’s much different than normal. I must also note that I’m also taking 5 mg estradiol twice daily. The finasteride works efficiently to relax the prostrate but it does eliminate nocturnal erections as well as those associated with sexual activity.

I'm back on Finasteride as of Jan 1, but only 2.5mg to see if it suits me better.
Hi Frederick, Is the lack of erections caused by Finasteride a wanted or unwanted side effect?

By the way, my urologost didn't seem to think any of the currently available alternatives surgery for enlarged prostate are any better than TURP. But I have decided to 'take a rain check' on prostate surgery and shrink my prostate with testosterone reducing measures. Hopefully that will work nicely for the time being. So I'm back on Finasteride, and have done 20 days on 2.5mg daily (half the recommended dose to see if it controls my prostate without affecting my sex ability). My urinary symptoms have improved. I'm getting a few mild hot flushes and the occasional cold sweat. My hands and feet get cold but not as much they did when I was on 5 mg daily. My sex drive is strong, and I am getting morning erections and can fuck my girlfriend no problem. Not feeling that 'eunuch calm' that I was enjoying when on full dose, but feeling okay anyway.

In the literature with Finasteride there's mention of an increase in 'high grade prostate cancer' associated with Finasteride. My urologist couldn't really expand on this so I'm still a bit bothered by it and therefore I don't feel like taking it long term. What would you guys suggest as a safer alternative method of shrinking the prostate through some kind of testosterone reduction?

No testosterone means no DHT production so prostate tissue dies and the prostate shrinks I've done a lot of research on this because I can't take either of the DHT drugs. I've stopped taking testosterone two weeks ago and will see how it goes. They castrate men with prostate cancer and treat with very low estrogen for the side effects. There's an article about castration for BPH and the results show that the prostate atrophied and didn't grow back the only reason it wasn't put into practice is because of the development of DHT blockers that shrank the prostate reliving the symptoms. But I can't take them because of sever reactions to them. I've also have other problems that medically can't be fixed so I'm choosing this process for myself.

Thanks Chesleyt. I searched for the article you mention and found a short PubMed piece about a small study of men being treated for bph, 5 of whose therapy was castration. I wonder if that's the one you were referring to? It clearly showed that castration improves the symptoms of bph, but it didn't discuss the long term effects. I like the idea of castration for bph but I realise I might need to take a level of HRT to maintain my bone health and sex drive. What do you think?

I couldn't get the full text of the recent study you may be referring to but here's one from the late 19th century, it appears, that is very enthusiastic about castration for this complaint:

I'm going to try going without HRT and taking 1000 mg calcium and 1000 iu vitamin D I read this on a prostate cancer research article. I'm hoping to find that eunuch calm I heard of
If anyone can describe it for me I would appreciate it.

The article I read was in the 70s or 80s before DHT blockers came out
