He took a Japanese detective movie, rearranged the scenes and added a new script unrelated to the old movie.

It now involves a stolen fortune cookie recipe...

It was something much more serious, Dave...the EGG SALAD recipe. You remember the international egg salad race in the 60's. The West won when we chose mustard.

I just finished the series Insatiable. Its a very very weird show. I was thinking after the first episode I was going to stop, but since that was the pilot I thought I would give it a bit more of a trial. It got better and weirder. Its soapy and campy and FUN. Its hard to describe but it reminded me of the show Soap for those old enough to remember that show.

Its certainly not for everyone and you are just as likely to hate it as to like it.

Paolo wrote: Wed Aug 15, 2018 5:28 pm On another note, I watched about half a movie called "The Flying Guillotine" on Netflix.

It's Chinese. I think. The subs don't match the English dub, which doesn't match the mouths! LOL

That's the best part.

The Chinese emperor likes to behead people. Just about anyone, really.

He commissions some warriors in training, or something, to make a new weapon to get rid of 2 high ranking officials that he cannot just "off and kill".

So someone invents a flying guillotine. You throw it, it lands on their head, you jerk the cord, and off with his head!

Halfway in, I had no clue who was who or doing what or why.

They did mention eunuchs, though. Just that this guy was, and this guy wasn't, but again, I had no idea who was and who wasn't.

It was very confusing, and very cheesy.

Good grief, there's a second one! I hope it's not a trilogy!

"The Fundamentals of Caring," Craig Roberts, Paul Rudd - movie

Brace yourselves, I sort of liked this one.

Even though it's a clichéd tale of an emotionally devastated caregiver (Rudd, as "Ben") having a young man with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy as his first patient, the dark tones and the patient's morbid, dry sense of humor really make it stand out. For example, he likes to pretend that he's choking, etc., just for the reaction. His mother's order upon our hero coming for the interview is, "He's the new caregiver, so don't make him cry!"

Trevor's question at the interview is "How would you wipe my arse?" (He's British, lives in America, I think I missed why?)

Ben replies, "So that there's no shit left on it."

Trevor immediately likes him.

"Can you call the Make A Wish Foundation, and arrange for Katy Perry to give me a blow job while singing 'Firework'?"

Seeing the mundane existence that Trevor lives every day, thanks to his overbearing mother, Ben comes up with a plan to go on a road trip to see America's most boring attractions. The world's largest cow (dead, stuffed, and upstairs), the world's deepest pit, and that. It's a recipe for disaster, but they pull it off, picking up two interesting companions (women) along the way: one is a runaway, and one is a ditzy pregnant lady whose car quits.

One highlight of the movie is that the runaway becomes Trevor's first date

We eventually find out why Ben is a mess, what happened with Trevor's dad, la la la...and it's all horrible clichés.

Still, it's a pretty well written film.

6 of 10, and that's pretty high praise coming from me.

"Downsizing" with Matt Damon

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1389072/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Saw this one on either Hulu or Netflix, forget which, as it was a totally forgettable movie.

Not to spoil, but - you're warned.

This movie was dead-ass boring! It took 20 minutes to get going, and then went slowly nowhere. The actors were cardboard standups. The plot was overwrought and totally cliché.

A Norwegian scientist finds a way to shrink humans and other organic life down to 5" or so in height. The catch? Apparently hair and such doesn't reduce, so total body shaving is in order. All dental fillings, crowns, etc., are taken out. Should a crown or such be overlooked, as the movie says, it will cause the Shrinkee's head to explode as the head shrinks, and the crown doesn't. Apparently, all the shrunken animals had to be shaved, too. Imagine shaving a cow or a sheep? Never mind the ethical consequences of forcing your children to be shrunken, when of over 7 billion people, only 3 million choose to have it done.

Of course, the bad guy nations use it as punishment, too, adding a worthless subplot, but introducing the love interest of Matt Damon's hollow character. Oh, and he and his wife, far in debt, find their $125k worth will be converted to $12.5 million upon shrinking and being moved to the Shrinkee community. Read: Prison for tiny folks. And should a Shrinkee have the right to vote, etc.? Such is the ongoing dribble of this debacle.

And, of course, near the middle, we find that the Shrinkee community soon develops the same problems that shrinking was supposed to solve: Us and Them. Rich and Poor. The 1% soon take over and the community ends up with slums, etc. And to make things ever better, we have the two illicit characters who take in our would-be hero. Udo Kier is one of them, and I can't STAND him. His character in this flick makes you want to vomit.

Did I mention that his wife left him? They agreed to shrink, but men and women have separate units. She backs out without him knowing. He wakes up to find that she's divorcing him, and wanting like $6 million of his assets which aren't worth that yet. So he's a sudden Have-Not in Shrinkee Town, and living on the skids. This, after he's taunted with a fine mansion that is the dream, etc., only to have it all ripped away. So he's a working stiff again with nothing.

Aaaaand then we have the planetary disaster coming. Humanity is going to go extinct. The original Shrinkee colony in Norway has a secret - they've had the normal sized humans make an underground environment for them, 1.6 km down. They don't tell anyone why. They're all going down there for about 8k years to ride out the disaster, and repopulate the Earth with tiny humans later. Bla bla bla.

As I said, dead boring. Stupid plot, and one cliché after another. Don't waste your time.

"Titans," based on the Teen Titans DC comics.

This attempt at a live-action series sucks. I much prefer the cartoons. I could go on and on, but it's late.

Don't bother with it.

"The Dragon Prince," a cartoon from one of the creators of Nick's 'Avatar, The Last Airbender' cartoon. The good one. With Aang.

In this 2 season set (20 eps), Prices Callum and Ezran must get the last dragon egg back to its mother before it hatches...ooops, too late! With some help from those 'evil' Elves, of course.

I actually enjoyed this cartoon. It's well done, not so well animated, but seems to have a good storyline that doesn't rip off Avatar too much.

"Sex Education", starring that kid that played Ender Wiggin in the movie I refuse to watch. I think he was in "Hugo", too.

Not a bad show.

A sexually confused teenager, who has a sex therapist for a rather nosy mother, starts a career as the same at his high school. Hijnks ensue. Naturally.

Pretty entertaining. I was surprised.

Sex education was really good. I don't know if anyone likes animation? But the show Big Mouth on Netflix is very funny. Netflix has a lot of guilty pleasures available. I am obsessed with horror and action and when I can find a movie that offers both I'm glued to the couch. Any recommendations?
