Mid-Season Finale... I'll try not to spread spoilers
I did know some of that was going to happen. I didn't know how. Specifically, the scene they hype as "will be burned into your brain" or some such hyperbolic advertising horse manure. But that big revelation in the climax should not have been a surprise to anyone who can read the news stories about actors.
I still did scream "kill Negan" several times.
I did scream "Why are they doing that crap?" a couple times.

The impending death... Good riddance. That character has needed to go for a long time.

Scott Gimple the show runner for TWD is having a bad time with fan reaction.
Lots of people liked that character and thought that character was un-killable.
Over the years, TWD has had more than its share of terribly sad and quite disturbing deaths.

Hi LT if you are thinking about who I'm thinking of I think there may be a reason for the charicters survival ...I hope its not the case but.....
I like Neegan.... really good baddie but how the F@@K he got away again Is surely stretching it a bit.
Is this season (Series) going to end with Rick waking up after a long coma in the local hospital ?? I sort of keep going back to those clips earlier on in the season...

Negan...
Let me say this about Negan:
a) He is a rotten turd of a leader.
b) In the Comics Neegan has two fates -- In one Rick slits his throat. In a second, Negan ends up in that cell in the basement of a house in Alexandria. The comic book story lines never fully explained that in any satisfying way.
c) Negan took a liking to Carl when they met in one of Negan's visits to Alexandria. They got to be buddies. It was more than just bonding over baby Judith. Negan cooked him food.
However, look at the setup that is going on...
After the first encounter with Siddiq, Carl tells Rick that they can't kill every Savior.
Carl takes Siddiq some food.
As Rick's plan to end the Saviors goes off-kilter (Reminds me of a line in another story: "When have our plans ever worked, Hermione?"), Carl saves the residents of Alexandria by distracting the saviors with smoke bombs and giving the residents time to hide in the sewers.
Carl offers to die to send Negan away. That's a big event in the TV version of TWD. In the comics it is Rick who lectures Carl about mercy that results in that dual ending for Negan. However, Carl for several episodes has bee a conscience and moral compass for the group.
Scott Gimple said on "TALKING DEAD" (the hour of silliness and interviews after the initial Sunday broadcast) that this death will change all the characters in the show in the next episode (the second-half-season premier). . .
I think Gimple and Kirkman and the current writing staff decided to change things from the printed comics and change the nature of the story to come.
I also think that something equally as significant appeared with that helicopter sighting but it won't help with this situation.

Both the show runners and Chandler Riggs have said the character is done. Good riddance. I've wanted to stab him in the head since season 2.
