I myself am a Chinese, and I can tell that this news is quite believable. In fact I have read several similar news about desperate wives who take extreme action to stop their husbands from cheating.

Well, that's partically because the poor women can't get raid of the unhappy marriage legally.

The last time I was in China (1990), the Chinese people could not speak English. It's good to see that teacher's hard work in China and Taiwan (teachers also from South Africa) is bearing good fruit. Your English is good. In 1990, I had to mime or use several means to communicate.

Chinese wives compliant???? My laopo was certainly made in China, and I found her in Beijing and brought her to US.

I don't know what to expect now... ! I haven't noticed the compliant part yet.....

Yes, the social circumstances are very different, even today in much of China. We are happy to have adapted to life in US, even if we were not born here, we don't forget family and friends. So, we return about once a year to spoil the nephew and neice, and check in on aging Mama and Baba in the north of China.

Dave, tell me if I remember this correctly. Back in the 1980's paraquot was an herbicide that the US government gave to Mexico to spray on marijuana fields. Once the fields were sprayed the growers quickly harvested the pot for shipment. people got sick.

Let me say this first -- if you have a weed problem, if you want to clear a field -- don't spray anything just get out there and do the work. Work doesn't kill. That's as blunt as I can be.

Paraquat might have been used to replace "agent orange" in parts of Vietnam but it isn't the same chemical. It's just as bad.

Paraquat is N,N′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridinium dichloride and is poisonous. It has been linked to Parkinson's Disease.

(I struggle with the chemical names, too. Don't feel bad.)

Agent Orange was two chemicals - 2,4,5-T (2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid) and 2,4-D. (2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid)

Agent Orange was impure and aside from the fact that no one should ever get insecticide or herbicide or defoliant on their clothes or bodies, the impurity was much more frightening -- dioxin (2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzodioxin (TCDD), an extremely toxic dioxin compound.)... Dioxin is a true poison and a known teratogen (That is, it causes birth defects down several generations).

2,4,5-T and 2,4-D are linked to cancer (acute myelogenous leukemia) in the children of Vietnam Veterans.

There are epidemiological studies that link Agent Orange to increased stillbirths, cleft palate, spina bifida and a host of other medical issues.

TCDD (dioxin) was also another "known human carcinogen." It is frequently associated with soft-tissue sarcoma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

These chemicals were not the first ones to damage humanity and the world -- Rachel Carson's "SILENT SPRING" was written because of the very nasty side effects of Chlordane (a chlorinated hydrocarbon) and Chlordane is banned except for termite control where it is licensed and controlled... (BTW - Nothing else kills termites in your house for 100 years).

Agent Orange is the stuff of nightmares.

Oops -- Yes, the Mexican Government poisoned their marijuana with paraquat.

I think that these tactics and such uses for these chemicals are so inhumane that they should be banned worldwide as an atrocity or war crime.
