Hopeful1 : slow down, I've had an orchi few days before you, same feelings so I started to do my regular work but the scar started bleeding. Nothing serious but uncomfortable. Just slow down, the healing needs some time.

Hopeful1, I woke up in the night with the bed soaked wet from night sweats just once, other times it just slight temperature rising in the daytime. Everyone different! I hope it would be easy on you, as it was for me!

The fatigue is not fun but you can deal with it, the night sweats are a whole 'nuther story. I woke up with the bed soaked so many times I just wanted to start taking huge doses of T. it'll pass but you have to work on the fatigue thing with exercise.

Heck, this is Georgia. About the time on August 1st when the weather catches up with the A/C, we get the urge to stick our head in the big body size freezer, not the little one on top of the fridge. lol

A hot flash will be something like that.

Re: Orchiectomy Scheduled!!!
Glad you had a good experience with the surgery and the healing. I had a bilateral orchiectomy last summer. For me the worst part was the emotional and physical roller coaster for the 2 or 3 weeks following the surgery. I was advised to go off estrogen for a couple weeks prior to the surgery and not to resume until 2 weeks after. So going a month without it was rough. I had to do that a couple other times in the previous few years for other medical issues, and the hormone withdrawal and changes was definitely not fun. But the month following my surgery was much better, and it's been steadily improving since then. The hot flashes weren't too bad, it was mostly just the mental differences that I noticed. I did lose a little stamina when doing physical work, but I was never very muscular or manly before, so I don't have much to compare it to. Overall, I'd say the first few weeks after the surgery will be the hardest, but that weren't really that bad, and now I feel the best I've ever felt in my life, both physically and mentally, so it was all worth it.

Re: Orchiectomy Scheduled!!!
I'm 71. My T levels dropped to the high 200s after radiation for prostate cancer. That radiation cooked a lot more than the cancer. They don't tell you that ahead of time, but that's another subject.
I noticed some hot flashes well before the surgery as my T levels continued to drop but they were infrequent and mild. They've become more frequent since castration but still mild. I don't get the sheet soaking night sweats some have described. They may wake me but I just toss off a cover and go back to sleep. If I get cold I simply pull the covers back up. They happen during the daytime too but don't last very long. I will add that I was castrated 9-3-15 but the hot flash frequency didn't pick up until sometime after 1-1-16. I don't take any TRT and hope I never have to. As others have stated it could be that age has helped ease me in to it. I was on Lupron as part of the cancer treatment in '06 and the side effects were much worse than what I'm experiencing now.
As an aside, I had to laugh when I read about guys reaching down after surgery to be sure they were really gone. I did the same but I was so wrapped up with bandages and padding that I couldn't tell. You'll be swollen and bruised for a few weeks but it will slowly go down. Best wishes for a continued good recovery.

Re: Orchiectomy Scheduled!!!
Regarding hot flashes : I experienced it few years ago, then doc realised it was after inflamation in testicles, since that time my T level was low, less than lower limit is. Now after orchi I experience just mild hot flashes but every night I must change my T-shirt at least twice because of night sweating. Maybe it will be worse but I guess I have good starting position as my T was low already before orchi.

I didn't reach down until the next day when we removed the gauze and pad they had used. As far as swelling and bruising, I must have the best urologist/surgeon in the world. I have no pain, no swelling and no bruising. At the most just a very slight amount of feeling at the incision that's more like a scratch than anything else. I have a primary care appointment tomorrow and she will probably want to see the incision. I see my urologist on the 10th and an endocrinologist on the 20th to hopefully start HRT (estrogen) for the medical portion of transition. So maybe if we can get the HRT started I won't have to worry about so many of the side effects.
