Tumblr is as safe as any site out there. I'll suggest you need new anti-virus software or a new computer.

Things have changed greatly, most computers today running slow is not a virus problem or even malware. They are being hacked and used as slaves. In MS go to the start menu and in the search box type in "CMD" a DOS window will open. In it type "NET VIEW" between you and the modem it will give you the name of each connection in your system. If your personal computer is the only one attached there will only be one connection. IF you have family and friends the number of connections will equal the number of devices and you can look at the MAC addresses to be sure. IF the number exceeds what you believe should be there you are hacked and slaved. I typically see well over 1000 connections on my friends computers running good virus and malware programs. I hate to say this but go out on the web like cnet and get Crud CLeaner. Install and run on your system. Then check net view again. if you have this problem it will be the expected number now. Run the CC cleaned software once a week and you will be fine. Most criminals just want the stuff in your temporary files and to use you as a slave. Anti virus and malware do not stop this activity because it does not fit the definition of their business. And yes I have cleaned this computer and am running all the good stuff and regularly find hacked login codes. Welcome to the not so safe on line world.

The only way out was to hold down the power button until the computer shut down. Then I restarted it. I can only assume that the anti virus software had something to do with it. I've read others post about avoiding Tumblr. That could be good advise.

Replacing my ancient router seems to have solved the problem.

The biggest emerging route of infection these days seems to be "malvertizements", ads bought on legit ad networks, with malicious javascript instead of ad tracking code. I'm no fan of ad tracking code, and even less a fan of drive-by downloads. The best way to secure your computer is the use of ad-blockers, NoScript (Firefox only, alas, but there are similar if not-quite-as-good available for Chrome and Safari) and avoiding religious websites.

Turns out that pornographers, in trying to fight their skeezy reputation, have secured the ever-loving shit out of their domains in the last decade or two, and are now some of the safest websites out there. :p

Once infected, I hate to say it, it's hard to be sure you're clean ever again. Rootkits can hide things from the operating system even as they gain access, bootkits install themselves to firmware and boot sectors and the like, and can persist across clean reinstalls, and even replacement of hard drives.

The only way to be really sure is to avoid infection in the first place - CCleaner currently won't flash your firmware, and it probably can't even check it.

The proliferation of cheap routers that will never receive a security update, either because their owners won't ever check or install one, or because expecting that, manufacturers never write one, is a huge security problem. Worms are known to 0wn routers, in order to send spam, engage in man-in-the-middle attacks, and mine bitcoin (slowly). Computer security publications have documented this extensively. I use Apple routers, which check for security updates somewhere between hourly and weekly; my IT buddy uses Buffalo, which come from the factory with DD-WRT, which is open-source and carefully vetted by thousands of hackers for their own use, and Google has just today introduced a router that does all of its own maintenance and security upgrades. If you're never going to touch your router once it's set up, the Google device is probably the safest bet.

There are many photos of handsome, castrated men in great physical condition on this site (emptyscrotum.tumblr.com) and they give me the encouragement that i can look just like them if I work at it. Men's bodies look so much better without testicles, BTW.

For those who are unaware, as I was, if you click on the links of the photos, many of them bring you to other tumblr accounts with their own many photos of castrated men too.

Just keep in mind, many of those photos are not the real thing. That's o.k., I just don't want people to think that they are seeing 100% actual castrated men. I'd say about 10% of what is there is real, the rest faked.

Well, that's good to know. I was beginning to think that this thing was becoming an epidemic.

Losethem -- Why do you have to be the Debbie-downer in everyone's thread? And the know-it-all? I'll attest that emptyscrotum.tumblr.com is 90%+ real eunuchs, and the rest just look like they are. If you are talking about the tumblrs that obviously are photoshopped nullos, then you are a dimwit if you think *anyone* thinks those are real. Cheer up, get real, and stop preaching from your short pulpit!

dvdbll, you need to take this into private messaging.

LT has been has been a great asset and valuable resource to this board, and I won't have even "soft flaming" of other members - and especially not one with the knowledge and experience that he shares.

If you don't like it, you know where the door is.
