BIG ISLAND VIDEO NEWS has a late Saturday update.
20/video-morning-lava-flow-update-saturday-sept-20/

In the comments one of the Pahoa townsfolk says that they are partying in the town so that it isn't wasted since it will be destroyed. They may as well enjoy it while it is there. Sort of a goodbye party.

They also say that the people who have to travel to the big cities daily are leaving or at least relocating to the road side of what will be the lava flow.

That's one hell of a civilized response to a disaster.

The Nazi elite did the same as the Soviets moved in on Berlin.

They partied. Si ?

Maybe someone should suggest they sacrifice an old eunuch to Pele

and see it that works like in the beforetime and virgins or whatever.

Now where oh where could the "nearest" old Eunuch be around Pele's gaping lava hole

One need only remember a few Twilight Zone episodes to imagine society after being cut off by lava.

Why isn't the Hawai'ian National Guard deployed ?

Are they afraid of being on the wrong side of the lava flow? Chaos. Social breakdown. Rioting. Looting.

Moi, The best thing that the government can do is to let the lava flow where it wants to. You see in the past they have tried to divert it with bad results. You clearly don't understand Volcano's, we do. The town of Pahoa may be cut in half, it might be so totally destroyed that it will never come back, or the lava might just stop.

So Moi, the people here are doing what we can to prepare for the Lava that might divide the Puna district. We have stockpiled Gas, food, pet food, moved our stuff out of U-Hall storage that is in the path of the lava, now we will wait, we will check the site Dave and I have posted, Big Island Video News every day as they update it every day. Moi, this lava flow is moving between 75 yards and 900 yards a day, now I don't know about you but I yes even I can out walk it, my friend Matthew who is missing his left leg can out walking it.

So to answer your question, a lot has been done, stuff that makes sense what were not doing is following the advise of fools like the lady who was not going to put up with this anymore and wanted a road built from her front door to Hilo. (she got laughed at and booed).

Now just what is the Hawaiian National Guard supposed to do? Point there guns at the lava and say STOP.

We dare not discuss the best thing the government can do.

It would get "political" 😱

Doing nothing is NOT the way of government. Is it?

Has the looting and rioting started yet ?

The break down is civil order ?

That's why

should be deployed on each side of the lava blow.

Y'don't know on which side the breakdown of the social fabric is gonna occur.

Will the native population take advantage of the situation, y'think ?

They don't lock them Moi, they simply build them on small islands located in the middle of active lava flows. It tends to keep the thieving foot traffic to a minimum.

If you read the link I posted for "Big Island Video News" you would know what is happening, the mayor who is from this area is here daily, they opened the community center 24/7 as a command post, there are emergency rules in place which allows the government to act and looters and others to get longer prison time, the Civil Defense is looking at everything daily by air. You would know all this if you took the time to read/watch it, but you would rather stand on your soap box.

They know where the lava is going . . .

It's just that it takes 2 or 3 weeks for the lava to get there and that gives time for the Hawaiian and Pahoan authorities (and all the citizens) to cope with it.

The trade winds are probably clearing the smoke which seemed to be the biggest immediate problem for health reasons.
