I saw Godzilla today, and it certainly beat any previous Godzilla I've seen, worth seeing on the big screen. Plenty of action that kept me watching, a little different from the usual Godzilla movie. The one thing I didn't like was a cliched ploy they used at the end to heighten the suspense, add a cliffhanger effect to it, toward the end. No one, not the army brass even, would do something so stupid. It almost ruined the movie for me, but it was still worth a one time viewing at the theater.
Wait for the DVD to watch Spider-Man 2, if then. It was only okay. Captain America was a much better movie. I enjoyed it enough to watch it again when it comes out on DVD. I won't bother to watch Spider-Man 3.

I just watched GODZILLA (2014) on PPV.
It was well worth the $5.99 for two day rental.
Godzilla King of Monsters.
Godzilla has bad breath, too, BTW.
Additional comments tomorrow.
ADDED:
There's a lot of Chiaroscuro (scenes with deep contrast between light and dark) and that means watching the movie in a darkened room.

More about GODZILLA 2014
There is this thing they call a "Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism" - MUTO
but it's more like a Massive UNWANTED Terrestrial Organism"
and it's not Godzilla and its got a mate and they are happily procreating over the ruins of Honolulu, Area 51, and finally (what better place to procreate than) San Francisco.
I liked it. Enjoyed myself twice now.
It's better than Judge Judy and all those crazy shows.
So I'll enjoy it tomorrow, all day.
a never ending loop of
GODZILLA

I agree. It reaches back to the original concept.
Although there are a few plot holes and "stuff" that make me giggle and smirk.
Like the MUTO goes from the Philippines to Japan to the North Pacific to Honolulu and then San Francisco. Those places aren't on a straight line or even a great circle. However, they are EAST of each other and that seems to be all the logic required to move the MUTO to San Francisco. Go East young monster.
For those who know San Francisco, several buildings are destroyed more than once. Which doesn't detract from the storyline at all but I imagine that those who live around these buildings know. A similar thing happened to me in THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM as they ran around New York City. I spent a summer living up there and they used the locations (Tudor City right next to the UN) for the movie. Well, I spent a few hours watching the movie in Slow Motion picking out the locations I knew. It might be fun fro San Franciscans to go slow through the fight scenes and pick out how many times the buildings magically rise only to be destroyed again. (movie-nerd fun)
Also, you can't see Las Vegas from Yucca Mountain. The curvature of the earth prevents that. I know, I tried to see Bartlesville from the Tulsa airport years ago when I had a business meeting there. Although Oklahoma is flat, the earth isn't flat. I live in a part of the world where there are rolling hills and small mountains.
Seeing Las Vegas trashed is kind of fun though. . .
It's not like Matthew Broderick yucking it up with French jokes. That was childish and stupid.
That was atrocious and made fun of the Godzilla franchise.
This new Godzilla doesn't disrespect the idea. It accepts and uses the original concept.
And really tells a nice story.

If any of you get HBO, this version of GODZILLA has hit HBO. I first saw that it was listed last night as the Sunday Night movie and couldn't watch it. So tonight, I put it "ON DEMAND" . . .
Jack up the brightness levels on your TV. Parts of this are shot at night and in caves and are really dark, hard to see.

The 2014 Godzilla movie is the best darn radio play I've ever heard.
Yes, I said RADIO play.
95% of this movie is shot in such extreme darkness you cannot tell what the hell is going on at all. Was that a claw or the end of a tail I saw? I'm pretty sure that was an eye... or an anus... definitely one of the two.
The other 5% of this movie is shot with such ridiculous shaking of the camera I honestly thought the cinematographer was going through the DT shakes whilst simultaneously being tickled on one of those magic finger beds they used to have in hotel rooms.
There are rare moments of clarity in the movie where the camera briefly stops shaking or someone turns on the lights, but I assure you, every single one of those moments were the ones you already saw in the damn trailer.
Out of a 2.5 hour movie, they have maybe 3 minutes of watchable footage.
The audio portion of the movie I have no complaints with, and if you close your eyes through this movie you will probably enjoy it considerably more. For me, the visuals were so frustrating it sucked all the enjoyment out of it for me.
Tip for Hollywood:
If you are going to make a big budget movie about giant monsters fighting, then please, could you actually turn on the damn lights and hold the freaking camera steady so I can see the big monsters I paid to see. Thanks.

I never liked any of them.
And I refuse to see "Dawn of Justice" or whatever it is,when it comes out.
Godzilla is in it, too.
Oh, wait, that's Wonder Woman...
