I couldn't understand how people could stand the taste of coffee until I was 63. Then my father's hip broke from osteoporosis.
The orthopedic surgeon told me, offhandedly, that since my father had been a heavy drinker of colas, that this was the cause of the problem. He said that no one over the age of 50 (actually no one of any age) should drink anything that contains phosphoric acid. It leaches the calcium from your bones. He maintained that drinks containing phosphoric acid, most sodas, were the reason for the apparent epidemic of osteoporosis in this country. He asked not to be quoted on that, however, especially on the internet, since if his remarks caused a decline in soda sales he could be charged with "economic terrorism" under extensions to the Patriot Act. (Passed as a result of the Texas meat producers loosing the libel case to Opra Winfrey over her hamburger remarks.)
My drug of choice to get my morning caffeine had been Diet Pepsi which contains phosphoric acid. By reading labels I found that even things like bottled Lipton's green tea contained phosphoric acid. I stopped drinking colas and learned to like the taste of coffee. I'm not a serious coffee drinker, using sweetener and milk, but I have actually come to like the taste of certain varieties. I also drink tea, only fresh brewed, and I do agree that Earl Grey is my favorite.
I preach that to phosphoric acid drinkers all the time.
Especially where children are involved I advocate "whole Milk or Water fluoridated"
I await the epidemic of osteoporosis from the "soda" generation.

If all you want is caffeine, why bother with coffee? Just buy caffeine pills and take until you induce atrial fibrillation. I'd have to like the coffee regardless of its caffeine level.
These days I drink only tap water. I gave up on fruit juice and soda years ago (too much sugar or harmful chemicals), and never took coffee or tea except for a sore throat. Water is what my body wants, and I try not to argue with it. I do love good soup, but that's not really a drink.

Working on an orthopedic unit I had heard that from several doctors.
I was told that phosphoric acid was bad for the kidneys and causes kidney stones.
It wasn't just a casual statement from a doctor. It was an admonition that if I wanted to live beyond my mid-fifties I should take care of my kidneys.
As for coffee, I never developed a taste for it.
In college I only drank it when I had to march on cold winter days.
(I played bagpipes and the pipe corp used to lead the marching band onto the field.)

Coffee-quila - cute
A 47-year-old Michigan woman developed a bone disease rarely seen in the U.S. after she drank a pitcher of tea made from at least 100 tea bags daily, for 17 years, researchers report.
The Detroit woman visited the doctor after experiencing pain in her lower back, arms, legs and hips for five years. . . .
. . . The researchers suspected the woman had skeletal fluorosis, a bone disease caused by consuming too much fluoride (
http://www.myhealthnewsdaily.com/2489-f ... tions.html) (a mineral found in tea as well as drinking water). . . .
Geeze! Who could tolerate such a thick brew?
Might-as-well just eat the tea leaves . . .
I worked with a woman who became very anemic from drinking too much tea.

You know, some sodas do not contain phosphoric acid (the funny thing, in higher concentration, it also dissolves tooth enamel

).
The last time I looked at the label of "Baikal" (no, not vodka

,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baikal_%28drink%29 - this one), it did not contain phosphoric acid, and contained much less sugar than cola.
PS. I drink coffee. It can be made bad, it can be made good. It is just that in many places and in many office coffee machines, it is too burnt for my taste. McDonald's is one of the worse perpetrators in this.
And what is the point of "Deathwish coffee"? I mean, after accidentally brewing few times an "eye opening" brew, and drinking it... No, thank you.

Another point about soda: Sodium Benzoate is a preservative often added to sodas, especially those with a strong citric flavour such as orange soda. It can cause liver damage symptoms similiar to heavy alcoholism. I speak from personal experience. One of my fav drinks is Orangina. I'd noticed when I glug them by the 2l bottles, after a couple of days I start to get some slight discomfort or pain in the liver. I finally looked up the ingredients and found that it contains sodium benzoate and that sodium benzoate can cause similiar damage to the liver as alcohol. Furthermore I noticed I'm fine when glugging Orangina in glass bottles. A look revealed that oddly, glass bottled Orangina does not contain sodium benzoate.
So there you go.

Coffee isn't properly made unless it can move out of the pot under its own power, and shows signs of being a lifeform.

Black Matte from Brazil! Loads of caffiene and a very nice taste. With a touch of lemon and sugar. Some time I will share my recipe for Marine coffee.
