Further details from the police report. Apparently they were having an argument over a male guest at the apartment, so unless it was some bisexual cheating, it seems like it wasn't cheating or recent abuse that prompted her.

He woke up while his final hand was being tied up. She immediatey pulled down his pants and cut off the penis in one stroke (at least it wasn't slowly sawed off).

New details emerge in case of woman charged with severing husband's penis

Court papers contain new details about the case of a woman charged with cutting off her husband's penis earlier this month.

The papers were filed as the woman appeared Friday

in Orange County Superior Court.

Judge Debra Carrillo agreed to a continuance in the case of Catherine Kieu, 48, who is being held on $1-million bail.

In a search warrant, Garden Grove police detail the incident. The victim, a 60-year-old man, was lying on the bed, his hands and feet tied to the bedpost with a white nylon rope.

He had a towel covering his groin area and told police his wife, Kieu, cut him. According to the affidavit, the victim came home from work at 5:30 p.m on July 11. The two had a discussion about a "male friend staying with them, but Kieu did not want the friend to stay with them."

The victim said Kieu prepared tofu for dinner. "The victim remembers the food tasting 'metallic.' "

Kieu asked the victim if he wanted seconds and he said no. After dinner, the man felt tired and went to bed about 9 p.m. He awoke to find Kieu tying his right wrist, and pulling off his clothes.

He alleges she grabbed his penis and "with one swift motion, she severed it."

On Friday, Kieu's attorney, Frank Bittar, a public defender, declined to speak to reporters outside the courtroom in Westminster except to say of the case, "There is more than meets the eye."

Officials with the district attorney's office said the investigation is ongoing. The charges against Kieu include torture and aggravated mayhem, both of which carry life sentences.

After officers arrived at the couple's Garden Grove home, Kieu reportedly made a statement to police that her husband "deserved it." The couple had been married since late 2009, but the victim had filed for a divorce in May, citing "irreconcilable differences."

Police believe the suspect tainted the soup but are awaiting lab results.

I guess we'll find out during the trial. However, if there was an obvious reason I think it would have come out already. She would have claimed abuse, rape or at least infidelity to try to justify it. I'm surprised she didn't have a good story ready considering how much she'd otherwise planned it -- poison, tying him up, waiting for him to wake up, cut it off and make sure it can't be reattached.

According to the police report, she was mad first of all because they were going through a divorce but because she was too poor he (big mistake) agreed to let her live with him for a bit longer, and then that night they argued about letting one of his guy friends stay over at their place.

Now there might be more to it, like maybe the guy was gay/bisexual and was doing something with the guy who was staying. But it really doesn't sound like the guy was abusive to her at all ... if anything he was being extra nice (as nice as you can be during a divorce).

Really? Unless he beat the shit out of her...which it doesn't sound like...violence is still wrong....mutilation be it like in this case, or Muslims throwing acid into girl's faces is inexcusable. At least in my world view. She wanted to make him suffer for life, not save herself somehow.

Yeah, she was pissed about getting a divorce. Not sure if the divorce was about infidelity, but I think that would have been mentioned (or we'll find out during the trial). My bet is that he initiated the divorce, probably because she turned out to be a bit crazy. It seems to me that she'd been thinking about revenge for the divorce and then finally acted when they had another argument. I'm not sure that he actually had done any infidelity, but divorce is sort of an implied infidelity (i.e. "I want to be with someone else") which could set some women into that mode of jealousy.

Yes, it is a common "joke" that it seems to be most prevalent among Viet women. There was actually another one in the US by Viet woman around the time of Bobbitt. Also, in Vietnam itself it happens regularly and apparently there is a saying for it called "feeding the ducks" because apparently the women throw the severed organ to their farm animals (instead of garbage disposal).

Someone mentioned that they think that in some Asian societies that divorce and infidelity are considered more insulting to the wife than "normal", in that it implies that the woman is not able to satisfy the man sexually. Whereas here we just figure the guy is a horn-dog that can't get enough and wants variety, there it is a full-out rejection of the current girl. Not sure if it is true, but could explain the trend.

There is also some thought that there are ripples of psychological issues from the Vietnam War, which really wasn't that long ago. If the previous generation was involved in brutality during war, including the storied idea that female soldiers were castrating captured G.I.s, then that brutal psychology would live on in their society for a while. The Viet women were definitely used in full combat situation, and saw a lot. Having a mother with PTSD is going to have some effect on the daughters.

I really love Asian women, so the idea of a Viet woman doing this is like the ultimate fantasy.

The talk show host, who was caught by photographers Wednesday night at Boa, was asked about the California woman who cut off her husband’s penis and put it in a garbage disposal.
