All I can contribute to this thread is to reference pioneer body modifier Jack Yount. Jack died in 1995 and I suspect at least some of his mods may have contributed to his untimely death.
He had numerous silicone injections, especially to his rather substantial penis. He had been castrated and his testicles replaced with very large steel balls. The final ones were the size of a cue ball or bigger. I have somewhere a video of this procedure.

I met Jack Youant IRL several times, and at the time I wondered if the introduction of that much foreign material into the body would impact his health....I tend to agree that it might have contributed to his sudden death

I think that you are pretty much on your own. There are no current government regulations (of ANY government, USA or other) in place meant to protect the 'consumer' of bod-mod services.
Should there be? I mean if you want freedom. Like they say 'those who would trade freedom for security deserve neither'... or something to that effect...

When I had my knees replaced I was not given a card to indicate that I had metal in my body. The surgeon said that he does not give such cards any longer nor do any of the other surgeons he knows. He claimed that so many of them are being counterfeited that they are now useless. I regularly go through security oriented metal detectors and the authorities in charge will not accept the cards. I had to go through a long process of supplying hand signed letters from two sources and these were then confirmed before I was allowed to enter. My situation is now in their computer but I still am hand searched every time. --FLO--
