The need is for Bureau's of Weights and Measures to establish a standard vehicle battery unit per output and dimensions.
Storage would be left to minimal requirements with open ended considerations for advancements.
Allow MOI to drive his electric vehicle from LA to San Francisco, stopping and quickly exchanging Moi's power drained battery pack for a charged one plus a charge fee.
Even if THEY hide some battery components in door panels, a central exchangeable battery pack is the only way to beat the problem of range, fast charge and unhappiness over the prospect of purchasing a new battery after five or eight years.

Hi fhunter,I know you are going to ridicule this idea with your practicality. I can take it.
Recent evidence with Brain PET Scans as subject were imaged next to a cell phone turned off or
turned on and muted
demonstrated clear activity change in the regions of the brain closest to the radio frequency transmitter.
If you are willing to drive a PRIUS I hope you are willing to live under high power lines. There are some less expensive homes there. Good deal for you.
EMF is the smog of the 21st Century!
You heard it at EA first.

Ridicule what? Battery parts in door panels - yes. For the reasons of safety and convenience.
As for the changeable batteries, I am all for it.
It is doable, but requires much consideration, and some parts:
For the car and battery:
* Safe connectors able to sustain high currents, and frequent reconnections.
* Some kind of gas gauge, taking into account battery aging. You do not want to end up in the middle of nowhere, without energy? And getting the car moving would not be as simple as getting few liters of gasoline.
* Cheaper batteries. (As I have said in the post above - the price of new battery pack for the Tesla Roadster is quoted at 36000$.)
For the system of exchangeable batteries to work:
* Cheaper batteries. Or else the coverage of this system would be really limited.
* New power grid, so the batteries can be recharged fast enough.
* New battery chemistry, cause lithium batteries age even when unused.
Ok. Now I am going to ridicule Moi for comparing mobile phone and prius in levels of EMF.
First of all, electric motors do give, you know, slightly different frequencies of EMF, than a mobile phone. Like, 6-7 orders lower in frequency. That, and motor's EMF is mostly contained in the motor itself. So compare low frequency, low power EMF from electric motor, with 0.5W (or so) transmitter at 900Mhz from mobile phone. And if Prius is not made of fiberglass plastic, or something similar, it's body would shield the driver from EMF.
