You hit the nail right on the head.
The entire point is that this Mayan calendar with its three complex counts is just the same as out decimal calendar. It doesn't have any effect on the world, it just counts the days as they pass. In fact, except for one revolution around the sun by earth, out calendar is completely arbitrary. We could have ten months of 36 days and 5 days holiday. Or we could have 24 fortnightly periods with scattered holidays at the solstices and equinoxes.
