The inner calendar kept track of the days the middle calendar is equal to our months, and the outer was equal to our years. Our Calendar works in terms of 100 years the Mayan calendar worked in 50 years (or was it 52)

You hit the nail right on the head.

The entire point is that this Mayan calendar with its three complex counts is just the same as out decimal calendar. It doesn't have any effect on the world, it just counts the days as they pass. In fact, except for one revolution around the sun by earth, out calendar is completely arbitrary. We could have ten months of 36 days and 5 days holiday. Or we could have 24 fortnightly periods with scattered holidays at the solstices and equinoxes.

Along with the Mayan Calendar you can also look at the Julian calendar which we use, it was first set up for Jesus (yes that one) to be born on the 21'st of December to coincide with the winter solstice or the start of a new year. the problem was that they call the new year the 25th, over the centuries this was fix, well partly because by that time Everybody knew that Jesus was born on the 25th of December and not on the 21st like they intended, and the fact that he was most likely born in April or May has nothing to do with it.

Through out time people that have used calendars have made them based on the Sun, the new year was the winter solstice or the spring equinox. As a Druid we celibrate the new year on December 21st, so did the Mayans.

We do not use the Julian calendar (named for Julius Caesar who decreed calendar reform in Rome at 45 BCE), which BTW makes no reference to Baby Jesus' birth because all of this happened before He was born. Caesar's calendar reckoned the length of the year at 365 days and 6 hours; by the thirteenth century it became apparent to all concerned, that the calendar was wrong, reckoning the day too long by 11 minutes and 12 seconds.

The calendar was reformed by Pope Gregory, and we currently use the Gregorian calendar.
