Courts, and not just US courts, generally would not agree with you. I witnessed this when I lived in Hong Kong for three years (a long, long time ago). If one buys something that has been stolen, and intellectual property can be stolen, then one does not own it simply based on the fact of having paid someone for the stolen property.

I am not a lawyer, but am commenting on what I have seen in my life's experiences throughout the world. Enforcement is, of course, the key to keeping Microsoft (and others) wealthy, and enforcement is sometimes a political tool.

This is the way to go in my opinion. The hard part is transitioning to the new OS. Once you have the basics down, Linux is far easier to live with than any version of Windows. Unless, of course, you have an unlimited amount of money to spend, and enjoy the constant surgery needed to keep either Vista or XP running properly.

Privacy and freedom, and security are paramount, especially so when running a site (or machines connected to it in some way) like this one. GNU/Linux or a flavour of BSD are the only systems I know of which could offer this

A few months ago I switched from Ubuntu to Debian. I prefer a very stable OS, and Ubuntu offers too many "surprises" for my taste. Debian might be aimed at a slightly more technical user, but, in my opinion at least, it would be the best choice for an organization, given its reliability.

Thats also here when it is stolen then it is stolen, but when i go to a shop and buy windoze products then it is also not mine.

I have been in a shop to buy a new computer, i didn't wanted window$ on it. so i asked for a refund That was not possible, I friendly said that i didn't get along with the legal terms of use of the software, their answer was it is not possible and that i should leave the shop. It was Dixon's they were selling hp and dell. And i know they are both selling computers with linux preinstalled. So i bought some parts build my own computer and put opensuse on it. with a illegal version of window$ Xp so that my kids can play their games.

For an dual boot system, first install window$ and than the flavour of linux you want to use. Approx 300 kinds. http://distrowatch.com/ and then use grub for booting.

That is because Microsoft (along with every other software company I can think of) actually sells you a license to use the software, not the software code itself. In this they have been supported by the courts as it is in line with other intellectual property licences.

When that was might be pertinent. Both sides of the Atlantic courts have decided that lock-ins are anti-competitive and if a machine+OS is offered then the machine alone must also be availble. Not that it's really worth it as the OEM cost of the OS is actually relatively little.

Disprove of M$ as we might he ethical issues do not disappear.

I'm glad that one person out there is happy with it.

I've yet to see a Vista machine do anything other than freeze up or crash.

Some friends just bought a new computer from Worst Buy, and we're "upgrading" it to Windows 2000 SP4.

Hi Paolo,

I've built five computers within the last 6 months for various clients all with Vista Home Premium and not one of them has a problem with crashing or freezing up.

I also have Vista Home Premium on my personal PC at home for the past year and half and have no problems at all. :)

I've had Windows 2000 since it came out in, what, 1999? And had no problems with it.😄

I'll get back with ya on Vista in about 8 years, then!:D

Hi Paolo,

Anytime you're ready to make the investment in a new computer, call me. I'll build one for you that will run Vista beautifully. Then maybe, just maybe we can upgrade you to the 21st century. 😄
