Il trittico Gianni Schicchi
by Puccini
"O Mio Barbbino Caro" as sung by Anna Netrebko is one of the most moving versions I have heard.
Right now I am listening to "sempre libera" a collection of arias by Anna Netrebko. I have no musical training and I learn about operas with discs such as this one. I also have cd's by Bryn Terfel and Andreas Scholl, etc. When I hear a piece that I like I then purchase the complete opera. The education is going slowly. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
As far as having my penis removed no need. I oft forget it is there.
Suggestion on learning more about opera: A National Public Radio affiliate in Knoxville, TN, has a program on Monday nights at 9pm called "Echoes of a Golden Age" hosted and produced by one of the on-air personalities, Daniel Berry. Berry is a knowledgeable and erudite person on musical matters and he covers a broad range of music, but particularly opera...and I think he must have one of the largest collections of opera music -- from old 78 records through the modern CDs -- anywhere in the country. I think the station allows streaming on your computer, so check it out at:

Thanks, that sounds great. My dad learned to love opera from a music appreciation teacher in his seventh grade. She played recordings in a class on Fridays during the thirties and had the class sing along with the chorus. Seeing an opera in person as I get to do at the LSU School of Music is a great way to see how human and personal opera is.
The place to sit varies with the hall. I don't usually sit in the best place to hear the music because I like being able to look into the pit at the orchestra.
These days we can read the lyrics in English or whatever with subtitles even in a live hall. It helps to read them. It helps to know the story. but the greatest joy is the music.
Your avata scares the hell out of me!
By the way, I very much like Vincenzo Bellini 's Casta diva.

aka "The Rabbit of Seville"
Yes! Great work. I think that Chuck Jones worked on those. I will have to google it.
The opera to hear during your penectomy might be Salomé.

The Magic Flute by W.A. Mozart - Second aria of the Queen of the Night:
"Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen.
Tot und verzweiflung flammet um mich her!
Fühlt nicht durch dich Sarastro Todesschmerzen
so bist du meine Tochter nimmermehr!
Verstossen sei auf ewig,
verlassen sei auf ewig,
zertrümert sei'n auf ewig
alle Bande der Natur
wenn nicht durch dich Sarastro wird erblassen!
Hört, hört, hört, Rachegötter!
Hört der Mutter Schwur!"
"Hell's revenge burns within my heart.
Death and despair flaming around me!
If not through you Sarastro does not suffer death,
you are no longer my daughter!
For ever be disowed,
for ever be abandoned,
for ever shall be destroyed
all ties of nature,
if you do not secure Sarastro's death!
Hear, hear, hear ye gods of vengeance!
Hear the mother's curse!"

I enjoyed a performance by the Louisiana State University Opera a few years ago. This aria is splendid.

I understand that Ms. Stevens played Carmen on and off the stage. She had a great presence.
