I DO NOT HAVE OSTEOPOROSIS!

🎶

For anyone who understands it. Here are my numbers:

Region BMD g/cm sq | T-Score | Z-score

AP Lumbar 1.173 | 0.7 | 0.7

Left Hip (tot) 1.083 | 0.4 | 0.4

Left Femoral Neck 1.026 | 0.7 | 0.8

Right Hip (tot) 1.094 | 0.4 | 0.4

Right Femoral Neck 1.105 | 1.3 | 1.4

sorry, I couldn't make these numbers any easier on the eyes

The sheet says I need a T-score below 1 to be "normal". So the right Femoral Neck bothers me. I need to figure out where that is and what I can do to improve that area.

Also... apparently I have "surgical hypogonasism, testicular cancer, and backpain". I know I have the first, but the last two? someone made those up... WTF BACKPAIN !?

The femoral neck is right below the ball of the hip joint. The femur is the thigh bone. The neck is the narrow part of the femur between the bone and the ball at the top of the femur. A lot of folks who break their hip do not do so due to a fall but the femoral neck breaks because of thinning bones and then they fall.

Oh and congratulations.

That's great news. Now, though, you need to take steps to stave it off. Get plenty of calcium – as much of it from real food as possible, the rest from pills. Get enough vitamin D. Sunshine is a great source, though pills may be needed as well.

You also need to make certain to get enough bone-stressing exercise. One piece of advice that often given to men who have osteoporosis is to take their partners dancing as often as possible. Finding ways to add a block or two (or preferably a LOT more) to your daily walking is also good. Don't look for a parking space next to the store entrance. Instead, look for a place well out in the lot. Little changes can add up to a lot of difference.

Testicular cancer?

Who was the genius that diagnosed that?

This is great news, Incuse. Congrats. I'm with Paolo on the testicular cancer - like, where the hell did that come from! Perhaps they put backpain down as a justification for doing the bone scan?

Jesus offers excellent advice on helping to ward off osteoporosis. Now, if only I, too, could find a dance partner!

Glad you got good news.

Congratulations. You have a good base line now to compare future scans to.

I am most happy that I put the pressure on you to get the bone scan. I knew you did not want to get it. Now that you have the results I know how very happy your are that you had the scan done. You were so excited on the phone when you were telling us of the results. Now you can relax for a number of years knowing that you are safe from this silent disease. You have things going for you. You have been taking your calcium pills, take good care of yourself, you are still young, you do walk most days which is very good in preventing osteoporosis.

Yes it was embarrassing having to go to a female clinic to get the test done. Would have been embarrassing to have to go to the drug counter to pick up your pills with the box having a label saying for females on it. I had to do that and it sucks and is not right. With all that being said you are now tested. You have the base line test and are doing good and have no worries for at least a feel years. Just keep up what you are doing. Get retested to make sure nothing changes down the road. Best to catch any changes early when it is more easy to correct then to end up with a broken hip and a long recovery.

I wonder if the people doing the bone scan are flipping your history to avoid a long fight with the insurance company? Or perhapes its "automatic" that surgical hypogonadism MUST = Testicular Cancer because why else?

I had a bit of a issue proving that surgery was a "valid" treatment for Orchialgia. It took printing out medical studies on the effectiveness of the treatment and the surgeon then doing some R&D on the authors to insure they were mainstream.

Anyway, glad you got a bone scan. Guys who are "testicularly Challanged" like us need to do so. And kudos to Jesus for saying to take your Calcium and Vit D... This is very good advise!

I have a feeling that after Dr. Kimmel got a hold of them then they became cancerous for a moment or two before they became ash. :D

I have religiously taken calcium and vit-d since I started chemical castration.

When Bobbie and Ralph came around, I found out that Calcium Citrate is much better (though larger!) than the calcium Carbonate (sp?) that I was taking.

Man those pills are large -- Calcium Citrate is like taking several horse pills each day.

My first bone scan had the reason for being done was a made up one in order to have the test paid by the insurance. The tech asked some questions as to why I was getting the test. The doctor never put a reason on the paper as the reason for the test. From the questions the tech asked, the reason for the test turned out to be.

Broken bones

height reduction

curvature of the spine.

I told that I broke two bones. One finger was broken as a kid and an elbow in my mid 30's. So much for broken bones. The height loss was an half inch. Every one shrinks a little as they age but she said that is another good reason for a test. They do not give the amount to the insurance. Just a check mark. Curvature of the spine? Maybe I did not sit up right. Also listed that grandmother had osteoporosis.

All I know is the insurance paid all but $50.00 I think. Was more then happy that I had the test done. Did not like the questions but who cares. Will never see the person again.
