While clitorectomies have been part of the Arabian and Africian culture for years, not to many people know that they were popular in this country recently.

At the hieght of the feminist movement in the Southern states clictorectomies became quite popular. In the early to mid-seventies it was the upperclass women of the South having the procedure done. A lawsuit arouse from a woman who was operated on under the direction of her husband. Apparently the surgeon was a friend of the husband. While the wife thought she was going in to have her labia reduced, she awoke to the loss of her clitoris. It was several years later, and after a divorce that the woman sued her exhusband. It was this case that brought light to a subculture of american elite who were actively promoting female nulification here in America.

I’ve read (I think in the non-fiction articles of this board) about clitorectomies being used in the early 20th century to control the behavior (especially masturbation) of rebellious teen age girls.

In this country, there have been two pervailing groups. First, there is the Ultra-Fanatic Religous groups (why are they always into altering God's work) that were doing the clipping of the girls in the Western US. The other group were the recent immigrants from North Africa and the Middle East that were having their doctors do the cutting in order to carry on the traditions from the old country. I believe that there is federal law prohibiting cliterectomys in the entire US.

However, there is now a surge of Labia reduction surgery. In this nation's obsession with the youthful look, women are getting the lips tucked back like a teenage girl's. Well, I for one, like the trimed back look.

I'd really like to get a written personal account from a woman on the subject of clitorectomy alterations. Please, I'd love to learn what sex feels like with a cut clit. Rumor has it that women who have their clits cut can't orgasm with masturbation, duh. On the other hand, the G-spot is even more sensitive. With penitraton being the only form of gratification, a woman's sex drive actualy goes up. Any truth to this?

Plus, there must be some Archive viewers out there of Arab orgins who can tell us much about this subject. I know that there are still harems in Arabia. Please tell us more.

No I think that these procedures were for the most part voluntary. It was argued in this case that she wanted the procedure. I think at the time it was illegal, even if voluntary.
