That "element" appears in two very different movies -- one is AVATAR and the other is THE CORE.
It also dates back to the 1950's ...

THE CORE entertains (sort of) but the science in it is really cheesy and there are huge and rather scientifically ignorant mistakes in it. Sometimes, the lack of total common sense is the unobtanium the movie is based on. I checked my brain at the door to even tolerate this scientifically. It's best to watch with a room full of drunken and snarky friends.
