MYTHBUSTERS has been exploding water heaters again. They apparently have a great love affair with exploding water heaters.

In case some of you have not see the demonstration - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bU-I2ZiML0

So turning water to steam provides one huge-assed, jumbo-sized steam cloud.

Steam burns really bad, too.

when liquid water turns into steam the expansion is 1700 times - that means that one cubic foot of water turns into 1700 cubic foot of steam.

1700 cubic foot is about the size of a 24 foot round swimming pool. Think of that expansion in less than a second. Quite violent and destructive. Which in the case of dumping water on lava is like holding exploding dynamite and hoping your fingers remain on your hand. (roll your eyes, please)

That's why you need lots and lots of it and not a teaspoon at a time.

Maybe the waters being colder around Iceland helps their efforts more. ๐Ÿ™„

Moi, please listen to what I am saying, you don't fuck with mother nature, She is going to do what she is going to do that is just how it is.

Now you may not like my answer however when you come up with a viable plan to stop earthquakes in southern California then talk to me again about this.

Or if you prefer how to shut off the full moon, its so bright.

a) there's a reason I picked 12,000 gallon of water or 1700 cubic foot - that is the capacity of many of the firefighting planes that drop water on forest fires. They can only fly and drop one at a time and guess what - Those are not common planes. Most exist on the mainland because forest fires are on the mainland and not in Hawaii.

b) Bardarbunga and Eyjafjallajรถkull are UNDER the ice sheets of Iceland and not exposed on top of the ocean.

c) The Hawaiians don't divert lava because one time they did try it, the lava flowed the wrong way and destroyed more houses and roads than if they had left it alone. The advice they give is good practice and not just local superstition. When a Hawaiian says "get out of the way of Pele" or "Don't mess with Pele" or "The land belongs to Pele, we are just guests" that's really really good scientific advice. And if Pele really does walk the islands, well, it's still good advice.

Our River,

aka Riverwind, aka RiverLava is missing.

Is he enjoying life, real life? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Or could it be he is otherwise inconvenienced with that pesky lava?

Hawai'i, what a Lava Life.

Try Styrofoam. It insulates and floats too.

I say; it is Hawai'ian hegemony on the ocean, or I would if it weren't interpreted as "political" ๐Ÿ™„

I am not missing, I have been posting daily.

The lava is flowing or as the Mayor said, pumping.

Weather is wonderful, it was clear this morning and I could see the observatory on top of Mauna Kea.

Aloha from one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Since you have been there - threatened by 3 hurricanes (which has never happened) and by one angry vulcano.

How long are you going to be welcome?
