Another hurricane off Baja California sends another dose of hot, humid tropical air into Southern California.

I cannot remember such events so frequently. No sooner do we return to our usual, near normal when -

another one comes along just like that.

It is NOT suppose to be 90F here. :( With drippy humidity.

It did look hopeful a week or so ago when cold fronts were coming down from Alaska and that is the pattern we need for rain. It remains to be seen if Canada sets up those three polar vortexes again to keep us dry. Although, hurricane fronts from Baja do a good job at that too.

The Asparagus patch I planted last spring has ferny growth some 5' tall.

Rarely do I see a spear. And more rarely do I clip one and enjoy it then and there, raw. Tender & good flavor.

Asparagus patch advice always welcome. Esp told here to let it establish for a year or three.

If they die off this winter, I plan to move them to a new bed. If they don't I will start the new bed with the same material I got at Home Depot. Dried up roots in a plastic bag. Wow did it look dead, dead, dead. The new bed is up a little hill, at the top which is being plateaued and soiled. I can stand at the bottom of the hill and see the spears more at my level.

Its been hot and humid here too, of course this is kinda normal and it does cool off at night and rains. The volcano is flowing again but in a north direction. I picked some oranges today they were wonderful, the pineapples and bananas are doing well, the sweet potatoes and squash are growing like crazy. The lemon tree is producing well good for lemon aid or putting on the fresh fish we get.

The best part of all of this is that 3 months from now nothing will have changed except we will have even more of it.

Another Hurricane is heading our way, for an island that has had like 2 in the last century this is the second one in a couple months. Throw in a volcano that is threatening to take out half the little town I live near, and and and I have not even been here a year.

OK back to the storm, we have already done this drill so its old hat, bring in the water, batten down the hatches because they say we will get about 20 inches of rain in this storm, the good thing is all the shit trees that fell and took out all the power lines last time, 2 months ago have not had time to grow up and do it again. We may and most likely will loose power again but not for 10 days, most likely the time of the storm plus a day.

The volcano is still moving at the town, it will cross the road in a week to ten days.

Hawai'i, the land of opportunity.

Aloha

Cozy Autumn weather. 💤

I have been getting the best night's sleep than I have had for months.

Weight gaining foods such as Halava look so yummy right now.

Yes I bought some pretty raw looking stuff from the Moscow Deli.

Along with some "cheese pancakes with raisins" and chopped liver.

And some marinated herring wrapped around pickles in jars for less than

Lasco Herring fillets.

There is just something so cozy these days.

I could wish it was a bit, cooler than 70F.

I have been living on Guam as I could go there with work and I love travel. It is hot and humid and rains a lot there this time of year but I miss thunderstorms. Those are rare there. I just came home to visit family in Pennsylvania and it is cooling off and just feels so nice and there has been a thunderstorm

You should have been here earlier this week, two days ago it poured for 2 hours, thunder, lightning made me remember one of the reasons I left the mid west. The cat got so scared he climbed into a cabinet under the sink in the bathroom. I asked if that was normal for this time of year, the answer I got was "We have never seen that here."

So for an island that seldom gets thunder storms, for an island that never gets tropical storms, we are having an unusual year.

I wonder what could be causing this? maybe its a butterfly in Asia.

If you look at the dates, you will notice a positive correlation to YOUR arrival. :D

I still maintain the pagan weather deities of the MidWest followed you.

Once you are sacrificed into the volcano, Hawai'i will return to the control of more local deities.

It is that simple. Don'tchyaknow.

The weather here remains, cozy.

The rats are raiding so I finally set out traps.

Got one. heh - heh, heh - heh

Truly. Killing bothers me. Its' gotta be done.

I have live capture traps too, and an electric fence.

So only the persistent need "die".

It is really, really nice Autumn weather.

No rain yet.

The sun sets at a good and appropriate time

The genocide on rats has taken a total toll of 3.

Hopefully the bobcat sightings just a few houses away from me and the hawk I witnessed on my bird feeder yesterday will bring the rat population into a better balance and I will no longer have to kill them. Maybe da squirrels too.

I really do not like killing. I sure appreciate my meat and chicken all pre-killed.

Usually it would be a coyote.

The change of top predator to bobcat is interesting because they have to tolerate "people".

The asparagus patch is producing red berries with black seeds inside.

I am planting these to my new improved asparagus patch.

They are trippy. About five feet tall now.

If they die back for winter, I will move the roots to the new asparagus patch.

If not, I do not know. Probably buy new dried roots from home depot. They worked best.

And that's the way it is, here.

Interesting about the sun rise and fall, One of the things I have had to get accustom to is that we get about 12 hours sun and dark each day, in the dead of summer its about 13 hours, dead winter 12 hours, so everyday is summer, shorts, sandals, t-shirt, time for a swim in the ocean, look out for the rain, Umbrella? NO, it rains here every day and night, November as I understand it is the rainy month, however that Hurricane dropped about 12 inches in one day. It has rained so much we have not needed to water the fruit trees or garden for a few weeks now. The Banana tree is coming along nicely should have some in a month or so, the pineapples are doing great, we now have about 25 plants around the yard

(Ahi = Tuna) raw of course.
