I took a drive yesterday to the southwestern part of the state, most of the highways there were barely above water, many farms were flooded and there were signs up all over warning about failure of drinking water systems and sewage treatment plants. The temp on my ancient van's thermometer was showing mid 90's and, of course, very humid. It won't mean much to most of you but the Saint Paul gauge (Mississippi River) showed two feet above flood and is expected to reach six and one half feet above by Wednesday (all time record is about thirteen feet). Navigation has been stopped above Lake Pepin. Both Upper and Lower Saint Anthony locks are open in order to allow increased water flow. --FLO--

Who is gonna get hit down river by a flood surge of river flow ?

Or is that "controlled" ?

there are locks all up and down the Mississippi, a few years ago the decided to let it overflow over a small town, better then a big one, the people of the town did not think so but had little to say about it.

I haven't checked the forecast but I would expect the flood to dissipate in Lake Pepin. --FLO--

I guess I am under the weather today, feel rotten, took a nap but got cold and woke up. My roommate said, if I am cold I must be sick. We have both been fighting a touch of something. So here it is 84 deg with a slight breeze and I am cold, go figure.

If you get it fresh? its at least a couple days old, Foster Farms is in Livingston Ca, that is just south of Modesto.

We get it frozen, not as good but a hell of a lot cheaper, Fresh is over the top.

Peru has cancelled El Nino for Winter '14 - '15 :(

Peru says El Nino threat over, waters cooling and fish returning

LIMA (Reuters) - The worst of the potentially disastrous weather pattern El Nino is now behind Peru and cooling sea temperatures are luring back schools of anchovy, the key ingredient in fishmeal, authorities said on Friday.

Temperatures in Peru's Pacific peaked in June, rising 3 degrees Celsius (5.4 Fahrenheit) above average levels, but have since retreated and will likely return to normal by August, the state committee that studies El Nino said.

"The possibility of us seeing an extraordinary Nino is ruled out," said German Vasquez, the head of the committee.

And I was counting on this El Nino to relieve the drought.

Actually, a strong El Nino adds to or perhaps I should say worsens the droughts in the American Southwest.

I believe it is about, which type of El Nino event it is.

The last event was a fizzle here so they wisely decided there were now, 2 kinds.

The kind that brings rain to the Greatest State of California and the kind that don't.

Just a matter of adjusting Science dogma to meet observations. 🙄

It "feels" hot in the sun, although sitting limp in the breeze is tolerable.

We maybe have a hint of "tropical" humidity.

Watering. Watering. Watering.

I did look up a couple more articles and there are different kinds of "EL Nino" - - that news makes me bang my head off a wall and whimper softly, Why, Why, Why
